Below, we recap the player analysis for prospects in the Classes of 2017 and 2018 at the Final Event of the Winter at Owens Community College on February 23rd.

Top Prospect

Jarrod Melle, RHP/1B, Lowell HS (MI), 2017

6-foot-2, 205-pound prospect with big, solid frame. Projects best as a pitcher at this stage. On the mound, he sat 81-82 mph with slight arm side run through a high ¾ arm slot. Consistently in the zone.  Maintains direction. Good 69-70 mph breaking ball with gradual 11/5 action in the zone. Changeup is thrown near fastball arm speed at 71-73 mph with similar run to his fastball. Good command of the pitch. Definite follow on the mound. Uses short arm action with some quickness to his exchange. Good arm strength with top velocity of 79 mph across the infield. At the plate, he starts in an open stance. Tendency to bar in his load. Toe tap to initiate his lower half. Dives a bit in his stride.  Hands work. Will improve with balance and improved swing path. Raw power. Top exit velocity of 85 mph off the tee.

Alexander Vogel, 1B/RHP, Anthony Wayne HS, 2017

6-foot-1, 210-pound prospect with tall, solid frame. In the field, he uses short arm action through high ¾ arm slot. Hands work. Exchange has some quickness. Top velocity of 75 mph. At the plate, eh starts in an athletic stance with a bit of a crouch. Short stride. Incorporates lower half. Good balance. Hands work with some quickness through the zone. Raw power in his swing. Ran 8.19 60. Top exit velocity of 78 mph. On the mound, he throws through ¾ to high ¾ arm slot. Some quickness in his arm. Regular effort. Tends to swing with his lower half. Breaking ball has late 11/5 action at 65-68 mph. Change sits at 68-70 mph.

Brandon Cook, OF/RHP, Southfield Lathrup HS (MI), 2017

6-foot, 182-pound prospect with average frame. Uses short arm action through high ¾ arm slot. Average strength. Top velocity of 73 mph. Will improve velocity as he plays through the ball and creates more momentum. At the plate, he starts in an athletic stance. High hands. Minimal stride. Incorporates his lower half. Short, level path. Top exit velocity of 79 mph. On the mound, he throws through low ¾ to ¾ arm slot. Short arm action. Regular effort to his delivery. Tends to open early. Fastball sat 76-78 mph. Breaking ball showed gradual action at 65-67 mph. Changeup sat at 71-73 mph.

Chase Riling, C/3B, Milan HS (MI), 2017

5-foot-8, 140-pound prospect with average frame. From the crouch, he reached a top velocity of 71 mph. Wide crowd. Transfer has some length. Pop times between 2.22 to 2.34. As an infielder, he shows a top velocity of 73 mph across the infield. Average hands and feet. Third base or second base type. At the plate, he starts in an athletic stance. Minimal upper half load with a short stride. Short path to the ball. Will improve as he consistently achieves extension in his swing. Top exit velocity of 72 mph. Ran a 7.46 60.

Chris Meszaros, OF/2B, Lancaster HS (OH), 2017

5-foot-10, 150-pound prospect with small, athletic frame. From the outfield, he uses long arm action. Top velocity of 63 mph. Will improve as he plays through the baseball. In the infield, he tends to play from his heels. Average hands. Top velocity of 62 mph. Long transfer. At the plate, he starts in an athletic stance. Uses a leg kick with a short stride. Short path to the ball. Line drive production. Top exit velocity of 76 mph. Ran a 7.38 60.

Dimitri Theocharakis, RHP/OF, Saline HS (MI), 2017

5-foot-10, 145-pound prospect with thin, athletic frame. From the infield, he reached a top velocity of 71 mph. Short arm action through high ¾ slot. Tends to wind up. Will be aided by playing through the ball. Also worked out in the outfield. Shows some athletcisim. Top velocity of 75 mph. At the plate, he starts from an athletic stance. Initiates lower half with leg kick and long stride. Pull tendencies in his swing. Top exit velocity of 78 mph. Ran a 7.12 60.

Dylan Dupler, LHP, Sheridan HS, 2017

6-foot-4, 175-pound prospect with tall, athletic frame. Plenty of room to fill out as he physically matures. Slow, deliberate delivery. Regular effort. More to come with use of his lower half. Short arm action through high ¾ arm slot. Fastball shows some sink at 76-77 mph. Breaking ball is soft at 62-65 mph. Tendency to slow down his arm speed on his changeup. Sits at 65-67 mph with some fade down in the zone.

Evan Brown, OF, Anthony Wayne HS (OH), 2017

5-foot-10, 178-pound outfielder prospect with strong, athletic frame. Ran impressive 6.91 60 on a slow track. Best tool is his best. Athletic stance. more of an upper body type hitter at this stage. Shows obvious quickness in his hands. Line drive production with pull power. Will only get better as he improves use of his lower half. Left-field type at this stage. Long arm action through low ¾ to ¾ arm slot. Top velocity of 72 mph.

Greg Geiger, LHP/OF, Northwest HS (OH), 2017

5-foot-6, 132-pound two-way prospect with small, athletic frame. Uses short arm action through high ¾ arm slot. Top velocity of 67 mph. Tends to play from his heels. At the plate, he starts in a closed stance. Uses a long stride. Slight uphill path to the ball. Top exit velocity of 73 mph. Ran a 8.28 60. On the mound, the southpaw throws with average arm speed through high ¾ slot. Simple delivery. Stays in line. Fastball sat 63-65 mph. Breaking ball had gradual action at 52-54 mph while changeup had some run at 57-59 mph.

Jason Wolfe, Jr, 3B/OF, Lancaster HS (OH), 2017

6-foot, 178-pound prospect with lanky, athletic frame. From the infield, he reached a top velocity of 65 mph. Throws with long arm action through ¾ arm slot. Accurate throws. Will be aided as he consistently plays through the ball. From the outfield, he reached a top velocity of 77 mph. Plays through the ball. Switch hitting prospect. Seems more comfortable from the right side. Tends top drop his hands a bit in his load. Partial use of his lower half. Slight uphill path to the ball. Line drive production. Top exit velocity of 80 mph as a right-handed hitter. From the left side, he is still developing repeatability. Minimal load. Short, level path. Partial use of his lower half. Top exit velocity of 71 mph. Ran a 7.38 60. On the mound, he throws through ¾ arm slot. Average arm speed. Regular effort to his delivery. Fastball is straight at 73-76 mph. Relies on a 57-60 mph knuckleball with some tumble to it.

Jon Quinlan, C, Oregon Clay HS (OH), 2017

5-foot-10, 170-pound catching prospect with average, athletic frame. From the crouch, he reached impressive top velocity of 77 mph. Short arm action with accurate throws. Feet work. Pop times between 2.19 to 2.25 that will improve as transfer becomes cleaner. At the plate, he starts from a wide, crouch. Minimal load. Obvious quickness in his hands. Short, level path with consistent line drive production. Top exit velocity of 82 mph. Ran a 7.12 60.

Noah Dryden, SS/2B, Lancaster HS (OH), 2017

5-foot-10, 145-pound infield prospect. Uses long arm action through low ¾ to ¾ arm slot. Top velocity of 63 mph. Will improve as he squares up his front side and creates better direction. Average hands and feet. At the plate, he starts in a crouch. Tendency to wrap in his load. Short stride. Slight uphill path to the ball. Top exit velocity of 68 mph. Ran 7.18 60.

Sam Elliot, SS/RHP, Calvin Christian HS (MI), 2017

5-foot-9, 138-pound prospect with small, average frame. Uses short arm action through ¾ arm slot in the field. Accurate throws with top velocity of 62 mph. Will improve as he creates angles and plays through the ball. At the plate, he starts from a crouch. Tendency to bar in his load. Short stride. Pull tendencies in his swing. Top exit velocity of 71 mph off the tee. Ran a 7.66 60. On the mound, he throws through high ¾ to over the top slot. Regular effort. Tall and fall type delivery. Fastball was straight at 66-69 mph. Breaking ball showed spin and some 11/5 action at 58-59 mph while changeup was 65-66 mph.

Sean O’Keefe, RHP/C, Saline HS (MI), 2017

6-foot-3, 205-pound prospect with big, solid frame. From the crouch, he reached a top velocity of 76 mph. Short arm action through high ¾ arm slot. Pop times ranged between 2.19 to 2.37. Still has room to improve with footwork and direction. Good skill set at early stage. At the plate, he starts in a balanced stance. Short stride. Lower half works. Obvious quickness n his hands. Solid, line drive production. Top exit velocity of 86 mph off the tee. Ran 7.91 60. On the mound, the righty throws through high ¾ arm slot. Some quickness to his arm. Easy effort. Fastball is straight at 77-79 mph. Breaking ball has gradual action with good depth at 61-64 mph. Changeup has some sink to it at 65-66 mph.

Zach Schwartzenberger, OF, Saline HS (MI), 2017

5-foot-10, 165-pound outfield prospect with athletic frame. Advanced actions at this stage. From the outfield, he uses short arm action through high ¾ arm slot. Top velocity of 78 mph that will only improve as he physically matures. Good feel for the position. Athletic feet. At the plate, he swings from both sides. From the left side, he starts in an athletic crouch. Smooth load with a short stride. Creates momentum through contact. Slight uphill path with line drive production. Similar swing from the right side. Repeatable swing. More power from the left side. Top exit velocity of 81 mph from each side. Ran 7.53 60.
