Fishers Wins Third Straight Mudsock Trophy

Fishers, IN - Fishers topped Hamilton Southeastern (HSE) to win the Mudsock Trophy for the third straight year. Clay Small (2012) and Griffin Hulecki (2014) were the impact performers of Monday’s games as they contributed immensely to the win.

The Fishers Tigers struck first in the top of the first, Garrett Schlotter (2013) doubled down the right field line and after advancing to third he would score on a pickoff attempt. He took off for home when the pitcher picked to first making the score 1-0. The HSE Royals tied the game back up in their at bat in the first, Justin Striebel (2012) drew a leadoff walk and scored on a sacrifice fly by Mitch Roman (2013). In the bottom half of the second Sean Green (2012) homered to right giving the Royals the lead 2-1.

The lead was short lived for HSE as the Tigers took back the lead in the third.  Matt Woolwine (2012), committed to John A. Logan, singled, stole second, and was brought in to score on a double by J.P. Pena (2012). Pena came into score on a throwing error committed on a single by Blake Baumgartner (2012).  HSE scored one run in the fourth to tie the game back up, Roman lead the inning off with a double and scored on a single by Chris Irwin (2012).

The Tigers scored the game’s final three runs in the top of the seventh.  Woolwine singled to start the inning, the next two batters would both be hit by pitches to load the bases.  Woolwine scored on a passed ball and Small got his third hit of the game to bring in the final two runs making the score 6-3.

Griffin Hulecki got the start for the Tigers and went the distance to get the win.  The 6-foot-2 sophomore righty was 83-85 gave up five hits, three earned runs, and struck out four.  Clay Small, an unsigned senior, went 3-4 on the day with a double and two runs batted in.
