Florida State Games: 17U Uncommitted Standouts

The 17U featured a large number of talent, with our scouts writing up over 80 players over four days. Today we take a look back at the top fifteen uncommitted prospects in attendance in the 17u age group.

Kyle Murphy OF / RHP / JW Mitchell, FL / 2020 Rankings  StateRank: 211 / POS: 33 6 foot 1 inch and 185 pounds. Strong athletic frame with strong lower half. Arm side run on his fastball sitting 87-90, good depth on his curveball sitting 72-73 while working low in the zone with most of his pitches. Good balance point while working in line with his delivery to home plate. Balanced approach at the plate and barrel awareness hitting gap to gap for power.

Bayron Acevedo LHP / Palmetto, FL / 2020 Athletic frame at 6 foot and 165 pounds with room for growth. Has above average hands with an average arm with accuracy and some carry. Moves fluid with his foot work and has a great 1st step  and plays through the ball. Balanced approach at the plate from the left side with a smooth and easy load that stays level with bat path through the zone. Hits line drives with good extension and has great barrel awareness.

Macallister Jorgensen SS / 2B / Riverview, FL / 2020 Uncommitted. Small frame at 5’9 150 but uses all of it efficiently to produce an 87-89 MPH fastball. Fiery quick arm and creates a lot of torque with a good lower half. High ¾ slot with some arm side run. Struggled to command FB and 77 MPH BB that had above average depth and tightness. Changeup at 79.

Carlos Lopez / Dr Phillips, FL / 2020 Athletic frame with room for growth. Has above average hands with an average arm with accuracy and some carry. Moves fluid with his foot work and has a great 1st step  and plays through the ball. Balanced approach at the plate with a smooth and easy load that stays level with bat path through the zone. Hits line drives with good extension and has great barrel awareness.

Shawn Guilliams RHP / SS / Villages Charter, FL / 2020 Lanky and athletic frame with clean arm action sitting 88-89 with his fastball, curveball 75-76 with good depth. Stays low in the zone with command of all his pitches. Quick arm speed with short arm action and delivers with ease on line to home plate.

Vincent Gallo C / Marjory Stoneman Douglas, FL / 2020 5 foot 7 inches has a super athletic and stocky frame that moves well behind the plate. Strong hands receiving and moves well blocking everything in the center of his body. A little above average arm and has a good clean exchange with accuracy with 1.95-2.0 pop times. Good balanced approach at the plate with a smooth load with a level bat path that gets extension. Hits with gap to gap and shows pull side power.

Campbell Cleveland C / Auburn, AL / 2020 Has a strong base and above average arm, Cleveland popped between 1.95-2.05 consistently.

Michael Chylinski SS / 2B / Olympia, FL / 2020 5 foot 10 inches and 160 pounds- Athletic frame and good first step defensively with an average arm with some carry. Michael has soft hands with fluid footwork and fields with a clean exchange while playing through the ball. Balanced approach at the plate and has barrel awareness. Hits line drives and has a level bat path and with good bat speed.

Tony Watson SS / OF / Tampa Catholic, FL / 2020 Athletic and stocky frame at 5 foot 7 inches and 140 pounds. Plays bigger than his size and has a great first step on the field. Has average hands and fields in the center of his body with a good exchange. Had a 4.00 time to 1st base from the right side. Good balance at the plate with a strong lower half and rhythm with the swing. Level bat path and hits gap to gap with average bat speed.

Jacob Von Thaden C / 2020, FL / 2020 Athletic and strong frame at 6 foot 1 inch and 185 pounds. Has a strong arm that has some carry and accuracy. Average footwork and clean exchange with pop times at 1.95-2.0. Moves well laterally when blocking and has strong hands receiving. Balanced approach at the plate with a smooth load and level bat path. Hits gap to gap with pull side power.

Garfield Johns LHP / Keystone Heights, FL / 2020 Had Top Tier Roos hitters off balance throughout his 5 scoreless innings in which he tallied 5 Ks. 82-84 with arm side run. Big body strike-thrower has advanced feel to pitch. Throws arms and legs at the hitter. BB at 72.

Hunter D'Amato SS / 2B / American Heritage Plantation, FL / 2020 The athletic and twitchy D’amato has great defensive actions. He barreled balls all day from the left side with a compact swing and a good bat path. Good extension, keeps barrel in the zone for a while. Good runner. Above average glove and arm, pushes through the ball well

Sam Drumheller LHP / Alonso, FL / 2020 Stocky and athletic frame at 5 foot 7 inches and 170 pounds. Average arm speed and short arm action and sitting 83-86 with his fastball, 72-73 with his curveball with good depth. Mixes pitches well and commands the zone with all pitches. Stays on line with rhythm with delivery to home.

Nolan Miller C / RHP / Sarasota, FL / 2020 Athletic and lanky frame at 5 foot 11 inches and 160 pounds. Moves well behind the plate with blocking balls in the center of his body and receives with strong hands.  Has some carry on his throws and carry with pop times to 2nd at 2.0-2.1 with accuracy. Balanced approach at the plate with rhythm and smooth load while using the lower half well.  Has a level bat path with gap to gap power and average bat speed and barrel awareness.
