Frank Niemann Continues to Improve His Stock at the Florida Underclass Games

2017 C/1B Frank Niemann of Lake Mary HS has had a very solid summer season with the Orlando Scorpions, showed well at our Top Prospect Games in June, and truly solidified himself at our Florida Underclass Games as one of the best uncommitted catchers in the state.

Niemann stands at 6 foot, 190 pounds but in person appears a little bigger than that. He has a strong, athletic frame that helps him behind the plate and really shows in the way the ball jumps off his bat. His 86 mph exit velocity is very solid and was one of the better readings at both events he attended, however, it is his ability to consistently square up live pitching and drive the ball with authority to all fields that separates him from other players. At last week's Underclass Games, he drove a double in the left-center field gap and lined a two-strike single that really showed off his hands and plate coverage. Frank has an aggressive approach and he has proven to be able to hit both fast balls and off speed pitches with gap and pull side home run power against quality pitching.

Behind the plate, Niemann has improved steadily this year as his pop time has slightly decreased throughout the summer, going from around a 2.1 down to 2.0.  He has plenty of arm to stay behind the plate at the next level and continues to improve his blocking and overall actions.

Frank Niemann has a plus makeup, is a very good student (4.35 GPA), and has an excellent work ethic. We should not be surprised if he commits in the near future and he should definitely be committed to a division I school by this time next year.
