The three remaining region champs each posted a sweep in the quarterfinals. Possibility exists for an all-Region 7 championship series. Woodstock was the only one of three Region 4 quarterfinalists one to emerge. There will be a new state champ with Etowah falling to Parkview.

The Atlanta area schools took care of business in the quarterfinal round. Region pride will really be on the line as the top two teams in Region 7 will square off with the top two teams in Region 6 in semifinal action. River Ridge is the only one of these four that wasn't pushed to a third game in the quarterfinals. Pope is the defending state champ.

7-1 Carrollton vs 3-1 Starr's Mill
8-1 Loganville vs 4-1 Locust Grove
8-3 Flowery Branch vs 1-1 Veterans
8-2 Buford vs 4-2 Ola

No doubt now who owns 5A, as three Region 8 squads advanced with impressive quarterfinal sweeps, allowing just seven runs in six combined games. Looking forward, Buford handily swept two games from Flowery Branch during the regular-season. Flowery Branch is the only team still alive that didn't enter the state tournament as a 1- or 2-seed from its region. Loganville is the defending state champ.

5-1 Cartersville vs 2-4 Spalding
6-1 Heritage (Catoosa) vs 2-1 West Laurens

North Georgia asserted its dominance in the only classification where four region champs reached the semifinal round. Cartersville eliminated 2017 state champ Marist in the second round.

5-2 Lovett vs 3-1 Southeast Bulloch
8-1 Morgan County vs 4-1 Pike County
5-1 Westminster vs 1-1 Cook County
6-1 Ringgold vs 2-1 Appling County

Another classification where all teams still alive hail from north of I-20. Chance for an all-Region 5 final exists. Lovett eliminated 2017 state champ North Hall in the second round.

5-2 Heard County vs 1-2 Berrien
8-1 Elbert County vs 2-2 Jeff-Davis
5-1 Callaway vs 1-1 Thomasville
8-2 Social Circle vs 2-1 Benedictine

Callaway crashes the South Georgia party by taking down Region 1 champ Thomasville in three games. The other three semifinalists swept their quarterfinal series. Possibility exists for an all-Region 2 final. Jeff-Davis is the defending state champ.

Charlton County (Region 2) vs Gordon Lee (Region 6)
Emanuel County Institute (Region 3) vs Irwin County (Region 2)
Telfair County (Region 2) vs Baconton (Region 1)

These games will be played today and tomorrow. Schley County is the defending state champ.

Prince Avenue Christian (Region 8) vs Savannah Christian (Region 3)
Pinecrest (Region 6) vs Holy Innocents' (Region 5)
First Presbyterian (Region 7) vs Providence Christian (Region 8)
Wesleyan (Region 5) vs Tattnall Square (Region 7)

Region 7 is guaranteed an entrant in the state finals, as First Presbyterian gets another crack at a Tattnall Square squad that won three close contests between the two programs during the regular season. Prince Avenue Christian felled 2017 state champ and 1-seed Savannah Christian in a decisive game three.
