On the heels of a thrilling extra inning game yesterday against Ralston, Bellevue West’s offense exploded against Millard South senior Caden Blair in a 10-0 win.

The Thunderbirds ran away with the game early, plating seven runs off the Garden City CC commit after back-to-back singles to begin the game. Senior Carson Wright delivered the big two-run double later in the inning to pace the offense in the first.

Up 2-0, Bellevue West continued to pour it on as senior Connor Schneider came through with an RBI double of his own. A two-run triple off the bat of senior Cam Madsen was the final nail in the coffin as Bellevue West snagged a 7-0 advantage after just one-half inning.

On the mound, senior Jack Bland dealt as a leadoff single proved to be the only hit he would surrender in the ballgame. Of the 18 batters he faced Bland got ahead of 15, utilizing his off-speed pitches when up in the count to put away a gritty Patriots lineup.

Millard South’s offense never found its groove after falling into an enormous hole right away. Blair, who has been consistent all year, was not his usual self and was responsible for seven of the 10 runs while only lasting three frames.

A Thunderbird team that has been on a tear ever since the legion season started finished this one off early as they added one run in the third inning, and two in the fourth. With Bland continuing to dominate on the mound, Bellevue West ended the game in five innings with a 10-0 victory.

Bland fanned five in route to a shortened complete-game shutout. He was effective early in the count with his fastball to get ahead, using his changeup and curve as strikeout pitches. His fastball showed some late life paired a changeup that dropped into the zone consistently for strikes, helping keep Patriot hitters off balance.

Seniors Connor Schneider and Tyler VanDerwerken were the big hitters for the Thunderbirds as Schneider recorded a three-hit game with a double, triple and two RBIs. VanDerwerken went 2-4 at the dish with a double and an RBI as both put their stamp on the double-digit win.

With the victory, Bellevue West improves its Legion record to 48-2, while Millard South finishes its season after going 2-2 in the A-1 area tournament.

The Thunderbirds remain unbeaten in the A-1 area tournament and now set their sights on Millard Sox Black. They will battle the Sox, who have one loss, Tuesday night at 5:30 with a chance to clinch their area and advance to the winner’s division of state.
