Gonk's Guys: Uncommitted Summer Standouts - Week 4

Anthony Goncalves
VP Scouting

After a long and productive summer the PBR-NY Scouting Department has had some time to reflect back on the 1,000+ players that were at events. "Gonk's Guys" will highlight several uncommitted standouts as we head through the fall.

GONK'S GUYS

Peter Fama SS / 3B / Iona Prep, NY / 2020

Hitting: Fama was impressive every time watching him during the summer. Fama brings a short compact swing to the plate. Fama does one thing and thats getting on base. Projects as a top of the lineup player at the next level.

Defensively: Fama athletic enough to play all over the field. Projects as a middle infielder at the next level. Fama gets in a good athletic position by using his athletic footwork. High IQ player.

Overall: Fama was always one of the better all around players on the field. Fama stands out both offensively and defensively. One of his best tools is his quickness. Fama plays faster than his 6.91 60 yard dash. Fama could be a really good addition to any team at the next level.

Michael Heilig RHP / 3B / St. Francis , NY / 2020

Pitching: Heilig was impressive at the NY 2020 games. The projectable RHP displayed good FB command and has been up to 84 MPH during our PBR events. Shows good feel for a sweeping CB which ranges from 67-70 MPH. Heilig got quick outs by getting ahead early with his FB.

Overall: Heilig has a projectable frame where the velocity should continue to improve as he develops. Heilig has feel for three pitches and could log in major innings at the next level.

Ryan Lansing SS / RHP / Cooperstown, NY / 2020

Hitting: Lansing has a short compact swing. Projects as a top of the lineup guy. Sprayed the ball all over the field during the NY 2020 games. =

Defensively: Smooth actions with active footwork in the infield and a strong enough arm to play on the left side. As an OF, Lansing is aggressive to the baseball and can play all three positions.

Overall: Ryan is a perfect example of a Utility player. The 6.89 runner is athletic enough to play all over the field. Lansing also worked out as a pitcher at a Preseason event in February. Lansing was up to 80 MPH and showed feel for a CB and CH around the zone.

Ryan Culhane RHP / OF / Clarence, NY / 2020

Hitting: Culhane just barrels up baseballs. Every time I watched him play he was always in the mix offensively and driving in runs. Simple hitting actions with easy bat speed. Culhane has more in the tank offensively as he continues to develop.

Pitching: The RHP just knows how to pitch. Impressive outing at the New York State Games. Culhane comes after you with three pitches and is always ahead of the hitters. FB has been up to 84 MPH.

Joe Gaeta SS / RHP / Fayetteville-Manlius, NY / 2020

Hitting: Gaeta is an exciting player to watch. Simple hitting actions with some sneaky pop at 89 MPH exit velocity. Gaeta sprayed the ball all over the field at the New York State Games.

Defensively: Gaeta is a do it all. An athletic kid that can play all three OF positions or in the infield. Gaeta showed off his arm this summer and recorded 85 MPH across the diamond and from the outfield.

Overall: Gaeta is another Utility type player with high baseball IQ. Plays the game faster than the 7.03 60 yard dash. Gaeta could make an impact right away for a team at the next level.
