HUNTSVILLE, TX -

PITCHERS

Top Performer

Stone Simmons, RHP/1B, The Kinkaid School, 2019
Simmons committed to Furman shortly after this event. The right-hander has a strong, projectable, durable frame at 6-foot-3, 205-pounds. Simmons comes off the rubber with a repeatable delivery and quiet mechanics. He rocks his glove towards his waist before bringing the baseball back to his chest, where he subsequently breaks his hands with an athletic drive towards home plate. His high ¾ delivery is benefitted by an explosive top-half, producing a heavy 88-90 mph fastball with arm-side run. His 78-79 mph slider contains tight 11-5 shape, as the pitch was consistently thrown from the same window and equal effort from his fastball. He flashed a 79 mph changeup with fade and angle that could be harnessed as yet another secondary out-pitch.

Michael Gresham, SS/RHP, Boerne-Samuel V Champion HS, 2019
Blinn commit.  Sturdy frame at 5-foot-11, 180-pounds. The right-hander has a live arm with a heavy fastball that flashes late life at 88-90 mph. He spun his 11/5 shaped breaking ball at 74-76 mph, and flashed feel for a changeup at 75-77 mph. Gresham has a loose and quick arm stroke from a high ¾ delivery, tall balance point with his left foot pointing straight down and stays tucked down the hill as he establishes direction, gets strong leg drive and his body is in sync and rhythm throughout the delivery, and has an athletic finish. Threw each pitch with similar intent and high effort level.  He also ran a 7.14 laser-timed 60-yard dash. Overall, Gresham has the skill set to be a game-changing player whether in the infield and/or on the mound at the next level. A two-way player, Gresham has a bazooka across the infield at 92 mph, registered an exit velocity of 103 during BP, launching balls to the pull side gap.

Ryan Bogusz, RHP/OF, Lonestar HS, 2019
Projectable frame, 6-foot-2, 170-pounds with wiry strength.  Bogusz works from a high ¾ arm slot with a long and loose arm stroke at 86-88 mph. The long-levered right-hander has a simple delivery with plenty of fluidity and direction throughout, the ball comes easily out of the hand, has strong leg drive, with an athletic finish, and he keeps his head on the mitt throughout the pitch.  Bogusz threw his three-pitch mix consistently in the strike zone, and commanded his fastball to both sides of the plate. Worked his curveball down in the zone with 10/4 shape at 72-74 mph, and his changeup was 74-76 mph. Bogusz showed his athleticism by running a 6.89 60-yard dash.

Jack Granack, RHP/OF, Legacy Prep Christian, 2019
Projectable 6-foot-2, 175-pound frame with more room to pack on strength.  Granack sat 87-88 in the workout, but reached back and touched 90. He spun a 12/6 curveball with tight rotation down in the zone at 69-70, and he threw his changeup with fastball arm speed at 77-79 mph.  Granack has a long loose arm stroke from a high arm slot. He takes a short simple rocker step up into his balance point, where he gets some torque in his hips, his hips lead him down the mound, he stays back in a strong backside, creates separation, has a strong glove side, and finishes with a flat back in his follow through.  Granack has a very high ceiling on the mound and is bound to be a contributor on the mound at the Division 1 level.

Christian Huerta, RHP/SS, Klein Oak HS, 2019
6-foot, 165-pound athletic frame.  Long clean arm stroke from a ¾ slot.  His fastball jumped out of his hand with easy effort at 85-87, he had a hard sweeping slider at 76-78, and showed feel for a changeup with slight sink at 77 mph.  Huerta has fluidness, balance, and looseness in his delivery. He has a high balance point, works with direction to the plate, lands square, has a quick arm, and an athletic finish with a recoil in his arm.  There is still room for Huerta to grow as a pitcher, and the natural tools are there with the arm strength, fluidity, and command in the strike zone.

Brady Putnik, LHP/1B, Stratford HS, 2019
Physical 6-foot-7, 195-pound frame with a strong lower half and wide shoulders. The big left-hander works from a high ¾ arm angle with quick tempo in his delivery.  He works in-line to the plate with some effort involved, and has an athletic finish towards the third base line. Putnik threw his fastball around the zone at 81-84 mph, he spun his curveball at 66-67 with a near 12/6 shape, and had feel for his changeup with fastball arm-speed at 77-79 mph.  Putnik is quick to the plate from the stretch with a similar up-tempo delivery, but was more consistent out of the wind-up during the workout. Putnik has yet to hit his high ceiling (no pun intended).

Ryan Peters, RHP/1B, Cypress Ranch HS, 2019
Wiry 6-foot-2, 170-pound frame with long levers. Peters has some rhythm in his delivery, a strong balance point, quick-twitch drive in his legs, a short to long arm stroke that is loose and quick, and an over-the-top delivery. Regular effort down the moun, aggressive kick over with his back leg into an upright finish.  The ball comes out of his hand clean at 85-86 mph, he spins a downer shape breaking ball at 72-73 that comes out of the same slot as his fastball, and a changeup at 77-78 mph. Peters is a candidate to see his velocity jump once he develops more strength into his frame, as his arm works well.

Parker Bigham, RHP, Barbers Hill HS, 2019
High-waisted 6-foot-3, 185-pound frame.  Bigham is a big right-hander who works from the stretch with a high leg lift (knee almost gets up to shoulder-height) with a lean back in his shoulders at balance point, he has a long to short arm stroke with a high release point, direction in his legs, delivery involves some effort, has an athletic finish with some recoil.  His fastball was 86-87 mph with slight arm-side-run, and seemed even quicker because of his ability to hide the baseball in his delivery. He threw a rolling curveball at 70-72, and his changeup was 77 mph consistently to his arm side.

Jacob Miles Clack, LHP/1B, Seven Lakes HS, 2019
6-foot, 172-pound frame.  The left-hander filled the strike zone with his four-pitch mix, has a high ¾ delivery with a short arm stroke, smooth rhythm in his delivery, with strong leg drive and some flexibility and quick-twitch in his hips, and an athletic finish that takes him towards the 3 base side of the field.  Clack’s front knee is pointed at the second baseman when he comes to his balance point in both the stretch and wind-up which generates some torque in the delivery. His fastball was 82-85 mph and flashed arm-side run, his curveball showed good depth and rotation at 71-73 mph with 1/7 break, he threw his slider at 71 mph with more lateral movement, and he also mixed in a 77-78 mph changeup.

Blane Romero, SS/RHP, Oak Ridge HS, 2019
McNeese State commit. 6-foot, 165-pound, quick-twitch frame. Off the mound, he has a smooth delivery with a loose arm action from a high ¾ arm slot.  His fastball sat 82-85 mph, threw a sweeping slider at 73-76 mph, and worked his changeup down with some depth at 78-79 mph. He has smooth rhythm in his delivery, a long smooth arm stroke, direction in his legs and shoulders, and has an athletic finish.  Romero reaches his balance point and then sinks into his back leg, where he stays engaged until his front foot is down the mound, strong leg drive in his delivery with some effort involved. Romero plays with confidence and has big body language at the plate, in the field, and on the mound.

Cole Alexander, 1B/LHP, Liberty Hill HS, 2019
Central Arkansas commit. Projectable 6-foot-6, 225-pound frame with strength throughout. The switch pitcher (yes you read that correctly) has overall better stuff from the left side at this point.  He works from a high release point with a short to long arm stroke, strong leg drive, and showed the ability to spin his breaking ball. His fastball was 81-82 from the left-side, a 12/6 shaped curveball that flashed tight spin at 69-70 mph, and a changeup at 72-73 mph.  From the right side, his fastball was 77-79 mph, his curveball was 58-63 mph with loose shape. Alexander has a very unique skill set, and is just an all around baseball player (coach’s kid). Has yet to reach his full potential, and will be able to help fill multiple roster needs at the next level with his very diverse skill set.

Daniel Shafer, C/1B, Willis HS, 2019
Physical 6-foot-2, 200-pound frame with plenty of strength.  Off the mound, his fastball was 82-85 mph and he filled the zone with a four-pitch mix.  He had tight spin on his curveball and slider with his curveball sitting 74-77 and his slider was 79-80.  His curveball has more depth, and his slider has later and tighter break to the pitch. HIs changeup also flashed depth, and he worked down in the zone with it at 79-80 mph.  Shafer works from a long and loose over-the-top arm stroke, has rhythm in the delivery with some effort involved, direction to the plate, leg drive, and an athletic finish with a long smooth follow through.

Joseph Carbone II, LHP/1B, Cypress Christian HS, 2019
Lean, high-waisted frame, 6-foot-1, 170-pounds.  The left-hander has smooth rhythm in his delivery with a long arm stroke, high release point, and max effort delivery with all three pitches coming out of the same window. Carbone takes a small rocker step in his wind-up, has a controlled low leg lift, and then has a front leg swing down the mound with a straight leg, puts force into the ground with a strong front side, and his hips fire through down the mound.  Carbone threw his fastball 81-84 mph, he flashed a power curveball with 2/8 sharp break and he showed the ability to locate this pitch glove-side-down in the strike zone, his changeup also had fastball-like arm speed at 75-77 and he worked this pitch down in the zone. Carbone has yet to reach his full potential on the mound.

Best of the Rest (Alphabetical)

Jake Byers, RHP/1B, Kingwood HS, 2019
6-foot-2, 205-pound frame with some raw strength.  The right-hander has a deceptive delivery, he pushes off with his legs early and has some jump down the mound, but he stays back with a long toe drag, and is able to work in sync with his upper and lower halves working together.  His fastball was 81-84 mph, he threw a rolling curveball at 66-68 mph, and had good feel for a changeup with depth at 68-71. His changeup looks to be a very effective pitch, he throws it with fastball arm speed, and it looks to be a tough pitch for hitters to pick up out of his hand.  He has a high ¾ release point with some effort and smooth rhythm in his delivery.

Daniel Carmona, LHP/1B, Lutheran South Academy, 2019
5-foot-11, 180-pound frame.  The left-hander threw his fastball from 74-77 mph, his curveball was 61-64 mph, and his changeup had fastball arm speed with slight run at 68-70 mph.  Carmona comes to a high balance point with his lead leg, has the ball in his glove tucked against his body, his front knee tucks at the top of his balance point with the toe pointed down, his hips lead him down the mound, and Carmona falls towards the third base side of the field on his follow through.  He has a short to long arm stroke and delivers from a high ¾ slot.

Mitchell Cashion, RHP/3B, Ridge Point HS, 2019
6-foot-2, 200-pound frame with strength in the lower half.  Cashion has a 2-seam fastball (80-83) that has late heavy run and sink into a right-handed hitter.  Cashion pounded strikes with his three-pitch mix and he pounded arm-side down sinkers with ease during the bullpen session.  He threw a sweeping slider at 68-69 in the zone, and a changeup at 73 mph. He works from the stretch, has an uptempo delivery, has a high leg kick to his balance point with his shoulders coming over his knee, he works in direction to the plate, and he hides the ball well in his delivery.  Cashion probably gives some right-handed hitters a really hard time, as he has the ability to run the ball from their barrel to their hands, and has the potential to get a ton of ground ball outs.

Ryan Davenport, RHP/SS/OF, Dripping Springs HS, 2019
5-foot-10, 160-pound athletic frame with wiry strength. The right-hander throws from multiple arm angles off the bump. From his side-arm slot he commanded fastball at 77-78 mph with arm-side-run and sink. He commanded a curveball in the zone with various shapes at 69-70 mph, his changeup was 68 mph, and he threw his knuckleball at 65-66 mph.  Davenport has some rhythm in his delivery with a long to short arm stroke, and lands slightly open with his front foot. He has an energetic presence on the mound, and will be a ground ball machine when he works down in the strike zone with his sinking fastball.

Colton Eilers, RHP/SS, Smithson Valley HS, 2019
5-foot-11, 180-pound athletic frame.  Eilers threw his fastball with some tiltl at 84-86 mph with a sharp tight-spinning downer breaking ball at 74 mph, and a changeup with slight depth and deceptive fastball arm speed at 74-76 mph.  Eilers has fluid rhythm in his delivery, has a high balance point where he turns his left knee inward to create some torque in the delivery, establishes direction down the mound with his legs, and has a long loose arm stroke with a high ¾ delivery with regular effort.

Luke Ely, C/1B, Franklin HS, 2019
6-foot, 180-pound frame with loads of strength. A two-way player and right-handed pitcher, Ely has a clean arm swing from a high slot. Easy tempo in a repeatable delivery with hip turn at the top of his balance point and short stride down the mound. Throws a straight fastball at 83-85 mph. His curveball flashes depth with 11/5 shape at 71 mph. Throws his changeup with arm side fade at 74-78 mph.

C.J. Gardner, LHP, Bullard HS, 2019
High-waisted 6-foot-3, 180-pound frame. The left-hander has a long arm stroke from a high arm slot, has some smooth rhythm and direction in the delivery.  His fastball sat 80-82 mph, he threw his 2/8 shaped breaking ball at 65-66 mph, and his straight changeup was 72 mph. He has a rocker step back, takes his hands over his head, has a high balance point, keeps his hips on-line, and has a flat back during his follow through.

Ricky Graham, OF/LHP, Hutto HS, 2019
5-foot-11, 200-pound frame. The left-hander works with a short to long arm stroke on the bump from a high ¾ arm slot.  His fastball ranged from 72-74 flashing some arm side fade, he threw his curveball in the zone with 1/7 shape at 65-66 mph, and threw his changeup with fastball arm speed at 68 mph.  He has a smooth delivery on the bump, works in line to the plate, has an athletic finish, and filled the zone with strikes.

Oscar Gutierrez, OF/SS, Langham Creek HS, 2019
5-foot-10, 160-pound frame with budding strength. The right-hander was 80-82 with his fastball, flashed tight spin on his curveball (72 mph) and the ability to throw this pitch down below the strike zone, and his changeup had late sink at 74-75 mph. Fluid delivery with regular effort, has a short arm stroke, maintains excellent balance and body control in his delivery, and has an athletic finish in-line to the plate.

Hutch Hornfischer, RHP/1B, Austin HS, 2019
Projectable high-waisted 6-foot-7, 210-pound frame.  Hornfischer is an intimidating presence on the mound.  He has a long loose arm stroke from an over-the-top arm slot which provides downward tilt, especially when he works down in the zone.  He has smooth rhythm and relative ease in his delivery, good direction and lands square with an athletic finish. His fastball was 80 mph, he has good feel for his big 11/5 shaped breaking ball at 70-71 mph, and his changeup was 72-75 with fastball-like arm speed.  Hornfischer was around the zone with his three pitch mix, and has the fluidity and arm action that could soon lead into a spike up in velocity.

Rudy Ibarra, 1B/3B, Baytown Sterling HS, 2019
A stout 6-foot, 225-pound frame. The right-hander gathers himself well, drives towards home plate, and finishes with a high ¾ arm slot. His fastball sat around 76-79 mph, while he showed good command of an 11-6 curveball at 64-67 mph. He threw his slider with conviction at 63-66 mph, and his changeup faded to his arm side at 66-69 mph.

Kyle Mann, 1B/RHP, The Woodlands College Park HS, 2019
6-foot-1, 190-pound frame with strength in the lower half.  The right hander has an over the top release, a short to long arm stroke, some effort in the delivery, lands slightly open, and has an athletic finish.  Mann has a deceptive delivery, hides the ball well, and has a lot of moving parts in his wind-up which can easily throw off a hitter. HIs fastball was 74-76 mph, his 11/5 shaped curveball was 62-66 mph, and he worked his changeup down at or below the knees at 71-72 mph.

Dylan McDonald, RHP/1B, The Woodlands College Park HS, 2019, 81-83, 73-74 SL, 79-81 CH

High-waisted, physical, 6-foot-4, 190-pound frame.  The big right-hander worked his fastball at 82-83 and flashed some cut action to the pitch.  His slider was 73-74 and had tight spin when he stayed on top of the pitch, threw his changeup with fastball arm speed at 79-81 mph.  McDonald has a high ¾ (near over-the-top) release point with a short to long arm stroke, some smooth rhythm in his delivery, compact body actions, a short stride (especially from a 6-foot-4 frame), and he works in-line with direction to the plate.

Julian Miggins, LHP/OF, Winston Churchill HS, 2019
6-foot-3, 189-pound frame.  The left-hander works with a slower tempo in his windup, as he takes his rocker step slightly forward and then lifts his leg back into his tall balance point, is closed with shoulder and hip while in balance point, breaks his hands off his back hip, uses his shoulders pulling through to get back in-line and has a ¾ release point.  His fastball was 73-77 mph, he spun his curveball at 63-66 mph and flashed the ability to throw this pitch to the right-handed hitter’s back foot, and threw his changeup at 70-73 with depth when the pitch was down.

Zachary Moses, RHP/3B, Sinton HS, 2019
6-foot-2, 198-pound frame with strength in the upper body. A two-way player and right-handed pitcher, Moses works from a high slot with his fastball ranging 76-80 mph. Throws a 12/6 curveball at 61-64 mph with big break. Locates a slider down in the zone with some depth at 66-68 mph, and his changeup was 72 mph.

Dillon Pawlik, OF/RHP, Ridge Point HS, 2019
Athletic 6-foot-1, 190-pound frame with some strength. A two-way player, Pawlik ran a 6.85 laser-timed 60 to start his day. On the mound, the right-hander works from a very over-the-top arm angle with a long arm stroke, has direction to the plate in his delivery with some effort involved, and has an upright finish.  His fastball sat 82-83 and he located the fastball to both sides of the plate in the strike zone, his curveball flashed true 12/6 spin to it at 68-72, and his changeup was 71-76 mph.

Elias Rivera, LHP/OF, Veterans Memorial HS, 2019
Projectable 6-foot-2, 170-pound high-waisted frame.  The left-hander has a three-pitch mix, his fastball was 78-81 mph, his slider was 68-70 mph, and his changeup was 76-78 mph.  He was around the zone with his fastball, and had feel for his changeup in the zone. He throws all three pitches with the same intent level and similar arm speed.  He has a ¾ delivery with a long arm action, some effort is involved in the delivery, and he has an athletic finish. Rivera has a strong mound presence, and emits confidence while he is on the mound.

Rob Ruff, 2B/OF, Smithson Valley HS, 2019
5-foot-9, 160-pound frame with wiry strength and quick twitch ability. The right-hander threw his four-pitch mix consistently in the strike zone, works from a high ¾ arm action with his fastball sitting 82-83 mph.  Has feel for a curveball with 11/5 shape at 65-67 mph, flashed tight spin on his slider at 71-72 mph, and threw his changeup in the zone at 73-74 with near-fastball arm speed. 6-foot-1, 170-pound high-waisted  frame. The right-hander has a long arm stroke from an over-the-top angle that gives some tilt to his pitches.  He has fluid rhythm in his delivery out of the wind-up and is very quick to the plate with a slide-step out of the stretch with an athletic finish.  His fastball was 79-80 with some downward tilt, he spun his breaking ball at 71-73 mph and it had 11/5 loose shape, and his straight changeup was thrown with fastball-like arm speed at 76-77 mph.

Kyle Simpson, LHP/1B, Magnolia HS, 2019
6-foot-2, 215-pound frame with strength.  The left-hander has a short to long arm stroke with an over-the-top delivery and his fastball sat 74-77 mph with flashes of downward tilt when down in the zone.  He spun his 12/6 breaking ball 62-64 mph and showed the ability to bury this pitch on the backside of the plate. He had good feel for his changeup, which flashed depth and arm-side run at 66-70 mph and he threw it with fastball-like arm speed.  Simpson has balance and direction in his delivery, and has an old-school rocker step where he brings his hand and glove over his head before coming to his balance point.

Jacob Strmiska, OF/RHP, Round Rock HS, 2019
A projectable 6-foot-3, 170-pound frame. A two-way player, and right-handed pitcher, Strmiska works from a ¾ slot with easy rhythm in a drop-and-drive delivery with good energy down the mound, and an athletic lower half finish. Whippy arm stroke with a fastball that topped out at 81-83 mph, filling up the zone. Curveball was 73-74 with 11/5 shape and short downer break. Changeup flashes arm side fade at 78-79 mph. All three pitches come from the same window with regular effort.

Cooper Timmons, SS/RHP, Clear Falls HS, 2019
Long limbed 6-foot, 160-pound frame with room to develop into his body. Timmons threw his fastball 79-80 mph from a high ¾ arm slot with a long arm action.  He spun his curveball down in the zone at 65-67 mph with a big 11/5 shape, and threw his changeup with fastball arm speed at 72-74 mph. He has smooth rhythm in the delivery with a controlled balance point, has regular effort in the delivery, establishes direction in line to the plate, and has an upright finish to his delivery.  Timmons has impressive actions in the infield, and his range was much better than his 60-time would indicate. His tools will continue to improve as he adds more strength into his frame.

Kyle Wommack, OF/RHP, Willis HS, 2019
Wommack has a strong, muscular, broad shouldered frame at 5-foot-11, 205-pounds.
