Hunter Martin Announced as New Tennessee Scouting Director

PBR Staff

Prep Baseball Report is proud to welcome Hunter Martin as our new Tennessee Scouting Director. The state of Tennessee is in excellent hands with Martin, as the Murfreesboro native’s baseball roots run deep across the state.

A winner on and off the field, Martin enjoyed a decorated career at the University of Tennessee before the Houston Astros selected the right-handed pitcher in the 20th round of the 2017 MLB Amateur Draft.

“I am really excited to welcome Hunter to our team,” said Prep Baseball Report President Sean Duncan. “Hunter has a deep-rooted passion for baseball in his home state and is keenly interested in helping players achieve their goals of playing baseball at the next level. Hunter’s knowledge and passion will resonate, which will ultimately benefit all the players, parents and coaches across Tennessee.”

As a standout pitcher at Blackman HS in Murfreesboro, Martin racked up the accolades before committing to the University of Tennessee. At Tennessee, he made an immediate impact, being named the Friday night starter for the Vols as a freshman. Martin earned Freshman All-SEC honors, and went on to post a career 3.20 ERA during his tenure.

Martin’s name is threaded throughout the record books in Knoxville, including top 5 in innings pitched and games started. In 2016, he fired four complete games in the spring, and was named a Cape Cod All-Star in the summer.

After the Astros drafted him, Martin played four years of professional baseball, pitching all the way up to Triple-A.

"I am so grateful and excited to take on this endeavor of being the Director of Scouting for Tennessee,” Martin said. “Tennessee is where I was born and raised and I have always taken a lot of pride in the baseball talent that represents this state. I love being around the game and when this opportunity came present, I knew I had to do it.

“My goal for coming on board with Prep Baseball Report is to be able to help as many prep athletes in this state find a home at the next level and beyond, while also making it known that achieving your baseball dreams are not only possible, but doable. I plan to make this experience as personable as possible with players, families and coaches alike and serve as a resource in any way that I can. I'm looking forward to continuing to showcase the talent pool that is Tennessee."

Now Martin will bring his baseball experiences, connections and passions for scouting to Tennessee’s prep baseball scene.
