The Prep Baseball Report IA Top Prospect Games event took place on Sunday, August 5, 2018. The event was held at the Robert W. Plaster Complex in Cedar Rapids, IA; home of Mount Mercy University. The event featured prospects from the 2019 grad class; and included many breakout performances from this year's participants. Players showcased their talents in front of our scouting staff and numerous college coaches in attendance. 

There were a number of great individual performances this year at the IA Top Prospect Games.

As we drill down into the statistics: 

+ 31 players ran sub 7.2 60-Yard Dashes
+ 39 players recorded 85+ mph Exit Velocities
+ 14 players recorded 80+ mph Infield Throws
+ 14 players recorded 80+ mph Outfield Throws
+ 12 catchers recorded 70+ mph throws to second base
+ 8 catchers recorded sub-2.1 Pop Times
+ 25 pitchers were 80+ mph on the mound

Tall stance, body load, barrel only through zone, looks to elevate, mid/pull approach, flashes loft pop in bat, 86 mph exit velocity. Athletic in field, works through ball, tends to field on side, shows ability to track down balls in air, online throws with accuracy and carry to target, 85 mph arm from outfield.

Ethan Bernard, SS/RHP, Council Bluffs St. Albert, 2019
6-foot-1, 175-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. #80 player in current IA 2019 rankings. 6.64 runner. Well above avg. athlete. Progressing to translate tools to game, tall athletic stance, good bat speed, flashes hard pull contact, line drive approach, 89 mph exit velocity. Solid overall actions, avg. glove, makes routine plays, accurate arm and covers ground well in field, 77 mph arm across infield. Works through ball, exaggerated crow hop, fields on side occasionally, accurate arm to target, 84 mph arm from outfield.

Tyler Burns, OF, Council Bluffs Lewis Central, 2019
6-foot, 165-pound right-handed hitting outfielder. 7.01 runner. Tall square stance, simple swing, body load, some length to contact with arm bar, line drive approach, shows ability to drive baseball to mid/pull side of field, 87 mph exit velocity. Long frame and athletic in field, moves well to ball, online throws with carry and accuracy to target, 86 mph arm from outfield.

Jordan Collins, OF, Bondurant-Farrar, 2019
6-foot-2, 180-pound right-handed hitting outfielder. 7.07 runner. Tall slightly closed stance, shoulder load, lift through swing plane, inconsistent timing, occasional hard fly ball contact to pull side, 84 mph exit velocity. Playable arm with accuracy to target, raw fielding mechanics, needs improved footwork, solid athleticism and should improve with instruction, 79 mph arm from outfield.

Josh Fitzgerald, OF, Mason City Newman, 2019
6-foot-1, 182-pound right-handed hitting outfielder. #3 player in IA 2019 rankings and #377 in PBR Overall. Currently uncommitted; Fitzgerald turned in a blazing 6.41 60 at this event. Aggressive swinger, good linear actions in lower half, looks to elevate, shows above pop to pull side gap, some length to contact with arm bar, has athletic ability to make minor offensive adjustments, 90 mph exit velocity. Easy actions in field, covers ground well, good reads on fly balls, accurate arm with online throws that have carry to target, 88 mph arm from outfield.

6-foot-2, 165-pound right-handed hitting outfielder. #107 player in current IA 2019 rankings. 7.25 runner. Blake Grevengoed, OF/RHP, WDM Valley, 2019

Body load, has extension through contact, stays on and through, shows pop in bat to oppo gap, ability to hit ball where it’s pitched, 84 mph exit velocity. Gregory Hall, OF/RHP, Linn Marr, 2019
6-foot-1, 175-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.02 runner. Lean athletic frame, early rhythm in hands, become stagnant in load/stride, flashes occasional pop in bat, line drive and fly ball contact, interesting follow in 2019 class with simple adjustments, 88 mph exit velocity. Easier actions in field, sure hands, limited front side, solid carry and accuracy on throws, 86 mph arm strength from outfield.

Patrick Hayes, LHP/OF, Rosemount (MN), 2019
6-foot-4, 170-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.87 runner. Drops hands into lower hitting slot, length to contact, avg. timing, spray contact, 73 mph exit velocity. Works through ball, quicker release, solid accuracy to bag, 78 mph arm from outfield.

Brook Heinen, OF, Urbandale, 2019
5-foot-9, 165-pound right-handed hitting outfielder. Currently uncommitted- will make big leap into IA 2019 rankings once updated. 6.69 runner. Shows rhythm in swing, body load, uses lower half well in swing, has pop in bat to both gaps, easier swing with good path, 88 mph exit velocity. Plays fast in outfield, works through ball, quick release with one of better playable arms in state, true online throws with above avg. carry and accuracy, covers ground well in outfield and chases down balls, 85 mph arm from outfield.

Brooks Jacobsen, OF, Wayne, 2019
5-foot-8, 155-pound right-handed hitting outfielder. 7.4 runner. Wide base, longer stride, some scoop to contact, spray hitter, limited use of lower half, consistently squares baseball, 81 mph exit velocity.
