ICYMI: Futures Games and Jr. Futures Games Recap

By: Zac Bottoms
Arkansas Scouting Director

The Prep Baseball Report Futures Games and Junior Futures Games were last week August 4th through the 7th at Grand Park Sports Complex in Westfield, Indiana. Futures Games featured the top 300 uncommitted underclassmen in the nation including 2018 C Andrew Stanley and 2018 LHP Kaleb Hill, who competed for Team Select. The Junior Futures Games consisted of teams from each state in Prep Baseball Report’s coverage area from the age of 9-14. PBR Arkansas was represented in the 9U, 10U, 12U, 13U, and 14U. It was a great week end of baseball in Indiana.

2018 C Andrew Stanley Searcy High School, had a solid week recording multiple hits in all three games. He showed his ability to not only hit but hit for power as he crushed a 2 RBI triple in the right-center gap against Team Missouri. During the pro-style work out Stanley had great rounds of batting practice showing an advanced feel for the barrel. He threw 2.01-2.05 pop times, throwing the ball 73. He registered 86 mph exit velocity and ran a 7.46 in the 60.

2018 LHP Kaleb Hill, Watson Chapel High School, pitched one inning on Friday vs Team Kentucky and one inning on Saturday vs Team Tennessee. His final line was 2 hits, 2 runs 2 walks and 3 strike outs. He impressed with his fastball command locating his fastball 84-86 consistently in the bottom half of the strike zone. His breaking ball showed he had a feel for it as well locating it for strikes on day with some depth.

Both players have picked up some momentum in recruiting coming after this event, and I suspect will pick up scholarship offers in the next few weeks.

9U

PBR Arkansas 9U team was an offensive juggernaut scoring 41 games in their 5 games. They defeated Team Wisconsin 9-8 and Team Ohio 10-8 during pool play. Team Ohio got their revenge winning 10-8 to eliminate the 9U team.

10U

PBR Arkansas 10U team lost to team Ohio in bracket play to get eliminated from the Junior Futures Games. This team competed hard all week, with their best game coming against Team Ohio in pool play as they lost a back and forth affair 8-5.

12U

PBR Arkansas 12U played competitive all week losing a few close games in pool play. Their most exciting game was an 8-7 to team Illinois. The 12U group jumped out early with a 7-3 in the 6th, after issuing 2 walks and a single, they saw their lead slip away on a grand slam, and eventually a loss. They matched up with Team Illinois in the bracket play and lost 8-2.

13U

PBR Arkansas 13U lost to Team Illinois 12-4 in bracket play, eliminating them from the tournament. This group played with great energy all week, playing hard and making some great defensive plays. This group also did a full pro-style work out, on Thursday morning, in front of a handful of college coaches. It was interesting to see some of the college coaches, come over from the high school event to see this team compete.

14U

PBR Arkansas was joined by 4 players from Indiana to form Team Select. They were defeated by Team Illinois in bracket play 6-0. The best game of the week for this group was a 7-5 victory over Team Missouri. These players also competed in the pro-style work out. In the 14U division there were multiple players that have already made their college commitments. This event had some of the premiere youth players in the country.
