This month featured a busy set of events, the last showcases of 2019. For our staff, the month of October is actually a hectic one before we break for the offseason. As you can see just below, we were busy with showcases and analysis, and there’s a ton of scouting reports for you to sift through.

EVENT ANALYSIS

COLLEGE FOCUS

  • College Crosscheck Week 2: At the start of the month, David Seifert, our Director of College Scouting, was busy and happened to catch a handful of Scout Days with Illinois flavor. Illinois vs. Indiana State naturally featured some former Illinois prep talent, like Brian Fuentes (Crystal Lake South, 2017) and Cameron Edmonson (Rochester, 2019), both of whom play for the Sycamores now. He also check in on Purdue, as well as JUCOs Parkland and Heartland, both of which featured a ton of talent from our neck of the woods.

  • College Crosscheck Week 3: Seifert hit the JUCO road again and sought out a meeting between Indiana and John A. Logan JC. There, he zeroed in on a former top prep prospect in our state, SS Ryan Ritter (Lincoln-Way East, 2019), who shined for Logan. The Hoosiers also used the hulking 6-foot-6 RHP McCade Brown, from Normal West, who will be draft-eligible in 2021. There are also notes from Eastern Illinois and SIU-E, as well, with even more former Illinois prep-related notes.

  • In more JUCO-related news, Phil Kerber and Seifert have begun to reveal our first edition of the Junior College Prospect Rankings. So far, we’ve revealed prospects ranked Nos. 51-100 here, and Nos. 11-50 here.

  • Our national team is keeping a pulse on the 2020 MLB Draft and Nathan Rode, with the help of our nationwide scouting directors, published a list of the top JUCO draft prospects to watch for headed into the offseason.

NATIONAL POV

  • The national team expanded our national 2020 board, and it’s complete with 18 Illinois prospects, including the No. 4 overall prospect, Ed Howard IV (Mount Carmel; Oklahoma commit).

  • PBR National Crosschecker Shooter Hunt published a list of on-the-rise 2022s that he’s seen in the late summer and fall, and Mount Carmel’s LHP Julien Hachem earned a shoutout, which you can find right here.

  • Inside our Hotlist in mid-October, Briar Stinson (Rushville-Industry) earned a mention as he recently re-introduced himself to the market after decommitting from Kentucky.

PBR DRAFT HQ

  • Coffee & Curveballs tackles the fall ball season, including a couple compelling LakePoint fall tournaments that produced some pop-up talent.

  • Hard 90 just launched at the end of September and is set to become a bi-weekly series where PBR National Crosschecker Hunt dissects his latest findings as he combs the country looking for nuggets from our state directors network. The latest two posts covered LakePoint tourneys, JUCO standouts, as well as events in Minnesota and Pennsylvania.

PBR TOURNAMENTS

  • LakePoint, the central location for PBR Tournaments, announced its 2020 summer slate in October. You can find its comprehensive listing here; its youth spring 2020 calendar can be found here.

  • Also, PBR Tournaments announced its affiliation with Creekside Baseball, an under-construction six turf-field facility set to open in 2020. The complex is just 20 minutes outside of downtown Kansas City and will host 14 PBR tournaments/events in the new year. Details can be found on Creekside’s Twitter or at creeksidebaseball.com.
