Jacob Margroff, OF, Woodridge HS, Class of 2017

PBR: Why did you choose Butler?
Margroff: Team chemistry and campus life are both very important to me and I liked it at Butler when I visited.  It also had a great coaching staff, business school, dorms, and campus.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Margroff: Youngstown State, University of Maryland, Baltimore County, Walsh University, and Kent State.

PBR: Where did the coaches first see you?  How did your relationship develop with them?

Margroff: I am not sure how I got onto Butlers radar, but the coaches at Butler came to a game in Indiana and then reached out to me several weeks later. 

PBR: Was distance from home a factor in your decision?

Margroff: It was definitely a factor, but I was willing to travel father to a school that I felt was a good fit for me.

PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?

Margroff: I will be sitting behind a senior in Center Field. If he doesn’t get drafted. I am hoping to be able to pinch run, pinch hit, or maybe even move to a corner outfielder.  I am actually looking forward to learn all I can from a teammate who is going to the majors.

PBR: You have participated in a few PBR events.  How has PBR helped you with the recruiting process?

Margroff:  I asked my high school coach “how do I get onto colleges radars” and he said PBR.  PBR recorded my speed and provided video of me hitting left handed and also video of me fielding in the outfield. I think PBR was the primary source of where coaches found me and then began to come out and see me play.

PBR:  Who do you play for in the summer and what is your most memorable experience?

Margroff: I played for the Ohio Longhorns 17U last summer.  My last game of the season I went 3 for 4 at the University of Cincinnati baseball field. My last at bat for the season was a triple off the wall in the gap.

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?

Margroff:  Definitely my coaches. Jerry DeMarino, Monte Morgan, Dennis Dever, and Dave Pence.

PBR: What were your stats this spring season?

Margroff:  Travel Ball: Batted .402, OBP .500, 40 singles, 6 doubles, 7 triples, and batted in 29 RBI’s from the lead off roll.

High School: Batted .430, OBP 555, 38 Singles, 3 Doubles, 3 Triples, 1 HR and 19 RBI’s from the 3 hole.

PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher that you have faced?
Margroff:  Brandon Bischof from Saint Vincent Saint Mary’s High School
