Instant Analysis: Day 2 of Top Prospect Games



Here's a running look at how today's action shakes out for the final day of action from the 2016 Top Prospect Games: 

Game 1 (Team 1 vs Team 3)

Tyler Moreland and Drew Mullins started strong on the mound in the first game of the day. The Genoa Central pitcher, Moreland, worked low to mid 80’s with 5 strikeouts. Mullins of Greene County Tech also struck out 5 and got up to 85 mph on the mound. Both threw 3 innings. Bryson Haskins of Ashdown showed his speed on the bases, stealing 2nd and 3rd during the same at bat to put himself in position to score on a pass ball pitches later. Caleb Kimbel had the play of the game in the 5th inning. The outfielder from Har-Ber HS made a diving catch in shallow centerfield to steal a hit and keep the runner from advancing to third. Christopher Bass of Vilonia had the biggest swing of the game with a drive to the warning track in left field for a double. The game ended in a 1-1 tie after 7 innings.


Game 2 (Team 2 vs Team 4)

The second game of the day started with another pitcher’s duel. Braden Quesinberry of CAC went 3 scoreless, getting up to 81 mph. Andrew Swaim, Ouachita HS, gave up one unearned in the first but went onto make quick work in the next two innings, touching 82 mph. Barrett Banister of Fayetteville HS hit a single in the 4th to score 2 for Team 2. River Hunt, of Sylvan Hills HS, threw well for 3 innings, working up to 84 mph. Chase Bryan of White Hall HS blasted a 2-run homerun into the left field bullpen. 

Game 3 (Team 4 vs Team 1)

Our third game of the day turned out to be an offensive showcase. Team 4 scored 6 runs in the 1st by way of 5 line drive singles, they went on to score 11 runs total. Most notable hitters were Jaylon Deshazier of Pine Bluff and Chase Bryan of White Hall. Deshazier had multiple hits including RBI single in the first that he lined over the third baseman. Bryan also recorded multiple hits with an RBI double in the 3rd. Kaleb Moody of Jessieville provided a big 2 RBI single in the 1st along with a diving catch in left in the 3rd for Team 4. Tripp Cheney of Farmington HS lined a triple over the centerfielder’s head later in the game for Team 1.  Team 4 won the game 11-6 over Team 1.
