Joliet Open: Preview

By Andy Sroka
Illinois and Wisconsin Assistant Director

On Wednesday, Sept. 16, the PBR Illinois is set to host the inaugural Joliet Open at DuPage Medical Group Field in Joliet. The event is open to all high school players. Registration information can be found at this link. For a look at the most up-to-date roster, click here.

Currently, there are approximately 30 players set to join us Wednesday evening, and SS/RHP Easton Harris (Washington Community, 2022; uncommitted) is among them. He’s a well-rounded prospect who offers value in a multitude of ways – from the batter’s box, to the middle of the infield, and on the mound. He was invited to the All-State Games earlier this summer where he showed as one of the top infielders at the event and was competitive from the rubber, sitting in the 83 mph range with a tight breaking ball.

Uncommitted senior Danny Nuccio (Plainfield North, 2021) is a top-100-ranked prospect in the state and he should be one of those to watch in particular on Wednesday. He’s a strong 6-foot prospect who’s shown well from behind the plate applying his bat strength well from the right-handed box.

Another uncommitted senior follow joining us for the event is RHP Parker Swanson (Prairie Ridge, 2021). Swanson’s listed at a strong 6-foot-3, 215 pounds, and he’s been up to 85 mph in front of our staff this summer. With feel for a couple different offspeed offerings, Swanson could earn some added attention with another good performance in Joliet.

And with so many new faces intending to make their PBR event debuts on Wednesday, we’re looking forward to updating our prospect lists after the showcase.

ITINERARY

Again, for a look at the event info, as well as registration information, click here. All players will check in between 5:30 and 5:45 p.m.

Position players will participate in the 60-yard dash, batting practice (supported by Blast Motion and TrackMan technologies), and defensive evaluations. Pitchers will throw an approximate 15-pitch bullpen that will also be under the scope of our portable TrackMan units. Catchers will participate in both their own defensive evaluations and will be monitored while receiving during the pitcher session.
