ROCKVILLE – Wednesday got a matchup between two rivals the South Spencer Rebels and the Heritage Hills Patriots. The South Spencer offense showed its prowess and they got a dominating pitching performance from Junior Jon Stallings. The lefty was 80-83 with his fastball that showed a lot of arm side run.

The South Spencer offense set the tone in the first inning. Kobe Stephens doubled to the left center gap to start the game and came around to score on a Nathan Kuester RBI single.

The offense did not stop after the first, scoring in every inning that batted in. In the second Stephens drove in a run this time with a single into left. The third Malin Webb delivered a big blow in the third turning on a pitch for a two run homerun over the right field fence. A sac fly from Chandler Roberts in the fourth pushed the score to 5-0 after four innings.

Five runs were more than enough for Stallings. He worked around leadoff hits in the second, third, and fourth inning to keep the shutout intact. After the fourth he really settled into a grove not allowing a hit the rest of the game. He set down 11 of the final 12 batters he faced, with the only runner reaching on an error.

The offense gave more run support to Stallings in the fifth and sixth. In the fifth Ryan Wilkinson tripled to dead center bringing in two runs and Trevor Lehr immediately brought him in with a single. In the sixth Tyler Schneider got in the RBI column, with his third hit of the game, driving a ball over the left field fence for a solo homerun to give the game its final score 9-0.

Stallings struck out four in his last two innings of work and finished the day allowing just five hits, no walks, and striking out seven. Offensively eight of the nine starters had a hit in the game.
