Junior Sunbelt Classic Wrap-up

On Wednesday Team Colorado wrapped up their 6th season participating in the Junior Sunbelt Classic held in McAlestar, Oklahoma. Team Colorado would go 5 and 5 in the tourney, but had three tough losses in the tournament to Arizona, Tennessee, and Mississippi all by the same score 3-2.

Entering the game on Tuesday against Tennessee, Team Colorado was holding a 5-3 record in the tourney with a chance to finish in the final four.

RHP Austin Wood of Silver Creek would get the start lasting 4 innings giving up 3 runs and 4 hits. Tennessee would strike first with 3 runs in the first inning, and that is all they needed as that score held up 3-2, two of the runs coming by sacrifice flies.

LHP Cameron Brown of D'Evelyn did his best to change the outcome, but Brown couldn't will Team Colorado past Tennessee. Tennessee had no answer for Brown, who kept runners off the basepaths in his appearance. Brown held Tennessee hitless over two innings, allowed no earned runs, walked two and struck out one.

Both teams only had 4 hits in the game.

On Wednesday Team Colorado would get a rematch against Mississippi who run-ruled them the Friday before. ThunderRidge pitcher and TCU commit Jake Eissler commit would get the start in this one going 2 innings giving up 1 run, but was consistently 87-88 mph touching 90 mph a couple of times.

Team Colorado would take a 2-1 lead in the top of the 2nd with singles Dakota Ridge OF Bailey Collins, and a walk by Cherokee Trail OF Jerome Bohannon. Both would be driven in by Bayfield catcher Kelton McCoy.

This is all Team Colorado would score. Regis Jesuit's and North Carolina commit Bo Weiss would come in relief who was consistently 87-89 mph. Mississippi was able to manufacture a run off Weiss with a walk, sac, stolen base of 3rd and a sac fly which would end up winning the game.

Overall Team Colorado was very competitive in the tough tournament. Jake Eissler and Regis Jesuit Quin Cotton would make the All-Tournament team.  John Sorensen of Rocky Mountain, Tommy Gillman of Columbine, Zane Phelps of Bayfield, Matt Burkart of Eaton, and Bailey Collins all had a very productive tournament at the plate.
