Kentucky Player of the Week: Mercer County SS Russell Sims

It was a weather-shortened week last week as many teams around the state were only able to play two or three games, but that didn’t stop a number of nominations from being received for Kentucky Player of the Week.

There were a number of worthy players nominated, and fewer games played means it was more difficult for one player to separate himself, but as we reviewed the stats, one player seemed to stand out with his accomplishments on the field last week.

Unsigned senior shortstop Russell Sims led the No. 2 ranked Mercer County Titans to two wins, displaying his power in the process.  Sims went 5-for-7 with 3 doubles, 2 HR’s, 6 RBI, and scored 4 runs.  What separated Sims from the pack was that all five of his hits were for extra bases.

As of yesterday, Sims was hitting .700 for the season with a slugging percentage of 1.250.

For his performance on the field last week, Russell Sims has been named the Prep Baseball Report Kentucky Player of the Week.
