With the season heating up and several teams with 5 to10 games under their belt, it is time to select the first Prep Baseball Report Kentucky Team of the Week for the 2014 season.

The Ballard Bruins, coached by David Trager, have reeled off six straight wins to open the season, including a 2-1 victory over a solid North Oldham squad, and a come-from-behind 8-5 win over previously #1 ranked Paul Laurence Dunbar (now # 4 in the Power 25).

Trager said it has truly been a group effort in getting off to the 6-0 start.

“We’ve had a number of guys step up, and it seems to be a different guy every day,” he said.  Offensively, Jay Poullard has really been a catalyst in the two-hole getting on base and setting the table for our middle of the order guys.”

That collective effort has carried over to the mound.

“Jack Dillon had an outstanding start for us against North Oldham,” Trager said.  “Kyle Riesenberg came in against Dunbar and held them at bay for five innings allowing our offense to dig out of a 5-0 hole.  Ricky West is throwing extremely well in the closer role and closed out both the North Oldham and Dunbar games.  There are other guys; it’s been a real team effort.”

Ballard, who burst into the updated Power 25 yesterday at No. 12, will look to continue their winning ways with some tough matchups on the schedule this week with games at No. 16 South Oldham and at No. 19 Trinity.

Congratulations to the Ballard Bruins, the first Prep Baseball Report Kentucky Team of the Week for the 2014 season.
