Kokomo Rallies to Beat Crosstown Rival in 7th

The visiting Kokomo Wildkats took an early 1-0 lead on rival Western in the top of the first on Wednesday night.  Drew Sale (2013) drew a two out walk and eventually scored on Parker Sanburn’s (2013) RBI single.  Kokomo would lead Western 1-0 through two innings.

In the bottom of the third Western’s Drew Bellus (2014) got things going for the Panthers offensively, hitting a two run blast over the left-center wall scoring fellow teammate Dakota Lamott (2013) to give the Panthers a 2-1 advantage.  In the fourth senior Adam Bolen (ranked 28th in class of 2012) had an RBI single, scoring in Nathan Kirk (2013) who doubled earlier in the inning giving the Panthers a 3-1 advantage. Kokomo would get a run back in the top of the fifth when Drew Guge (2013) hit an RBI single scoring Luke Alexander (2012) to get the Wildkats back with in one at 3-2.

Kokomo had an action packed seventh inning, scoring five runs to take back the lead.  Pinch hitter Channing Webster (2012) came in off the bench with two runners on and one out for the WIldkats.  Webster would hit a double to left center scoring two runners. He advanced to third on the throw home and then was awarded home due to an interference call.  Kokomo's scoring was not complete as Drew Sawyer (2012) brought in two more runs off his homerun to left-center, giving Kokomo a commanding 7-3 lead.

In the bottom half of the seventh Western fought back by putting two more runs on the board.  They had the tying run on first, but the late rally would fall short allowing Kokomo to hold on to the 7-5 win.
