Ledford- 6  North Davidson- 4

 

The Ledford Panthers hosted the North Davidson Black Knights on Friday evening. North Davidison came into the game undefeated in conference play with Leford looking to get a win on their senior night. 

The game was scoreless until the 3rd when Wesley Stewart started the inning with a 2 out single to left. After a strikeout, Cameron Helper doubled down the left field line giving North Davidson runners at 2nd and 3rd and one out. Merritt Beeker singled home 2 runs and he later scored on a Brayden Hill sac fly giving the Black Knights a 3-0 lead. 

Leford would answer in the bottom half of the inning, with 2 outs Devin Villaman reached on a 3rd strike passed ball. A walk would follow and the runners would soon move up on a passed ball. Bailey Smith then hit a hard chopper to shortstop that hit something in the grass and jumped over the shortstop's head scoring 2-runs. 

North Davidson would add another run in the top of the 5th to take a 4-2 lead. With North Davidson seeming to be in control of the game things would get wild in the bottom half of the inning. Ledford got 2 runners on with 1 out, Bailey Smith would single home a run making it 4-3. With runners at  2nd and 3rd and 2 outs Lucas Glover hit a fly ball to right field in what appeared to be the third out of the inning, the ball hit the ground, some thought this happened on the transfer, others thought it was a drop, the umpires ruled no catch and 2 runs scored giving the Panthers a 5-4 lead. After some arguing and an ejection Ledford would add another run to take a 6-4 lead. 

The Black Knights threatened in the 7th getting their leadoff man on base, but Gavin Sentell would strike out the next 3 hitters to secure the win for Ledford. With the win Ledford improves to 7-2 in conference play with North Davidson suffering their first loss in conference play.
