Lehnert Impressive As Lake Central Rolls 17-1

Lake Central 17 Hammond Morton 1

Taylor Lehnert (#12: 2012) set the tone early, establishing his fastball and a dominating slider, as Lake Central defeated Hammond Morton 17-1 in 5 innings. Lehnert, perfect through 3 innings, used his fastball (85-88mph; max 89mph) to keep Morton hitters off base, going 4 innings, striking out 9, while only giving up two hits. Ryan Burvan (2013) came in to finish the game in the bottom half of the 5th.

Hammond Morton had their fair share of problems at the dish; however, their defensive play allowed Lake Central to blow the doors open late into the 2nd inning; Morton finished with 6 fielding errors.

Lake Central was lead by Nick Kellams (2013), who went 2-3 with a triple and two runs scored. Kellams possesses tremendous speed at the top of a young, but potent Lake Central line up. Sophomore Alec Olund (#21: 2014) continued the pace, going 2-3 with two RBI. In addition, multiple hit performances were carried through by Ryan Burvan (#71: 2013), Antonio Majstorov (2013), and Jimmy McNamara (#19: 2012).

Surprising Player of the Day: Again, Devonte Robinson of Hammond Morton. Robinson (2015), singled twice, once off a Lehnert 88mph fastball. The Freshman has shown this week, seeing both Jordan Minch and Taylor Lehnert, he was unfazed by the supreme pitching talent in the Northwest Indiana "Region."
