For the second straight year, Charles H. Flowers from Prince George’s county traveled to St. Mary’s county to do battle with Leonardtown Raiders. The game originally scheduled to kick off the season for both teams was pushed to the end of the season due to inclement weather.

The fireworks in this big MPSSAA 4A clash started in the bottom of the first when Nick Burch (Navy) blasted one deep over the left field fence for a solo shot to put the Raiders up 1-0. Leonardtown would score another in the second on two walks and a costly Jaguars error.

Leonardtown strater Austin Olszewski was on cruise control until the third when Terrell Delaney left the yard cutting the lead in half. Tremayne Cobb Jr. (Hartford) followed with a walk and Jaydon Whitehead tripled to tie it back at two. The Jaguars would take the lead 3-2 later in the inning as Leonard Meade III singled to score Whitehead.

Cobb Jr. would strike out the first two batters in the third with the one run lead but struggled to find the last one as the Raiders plated one more to tie the game at three. Jack Roser walked, Matt Robinson doubled, and Owen Ziemba and Dylan Henderson both walked plating the third run before Cobb Jr. struck out the next hitter to end the inning.

In the fourth, Leonardtown regained the lead and never looked back in route to a 6-3 win. Burch led off with a walk, Cole Tarleton was hit by a pitch, and Matt Brobrowski who was attempting to sacrifice bunt ended up reaching first to load the bases. Ethan Ledig followed with a ground ball that was booted in the infield allowing the fourth run to cross. Tarleton would score on a passed ball and Henderson drew a four pitch walk from reliever Meade III to force in the sixth run of the ballgame.

Olszewski and Al Stumm held Charles H. Flowers to five hits while Brobrowski (2-for-4, R), Burch (1-for-2, HR, RBI, 2 BB’s, 2 R’s), and Robinson (2-for-3, 2B, R) led the way offensively for the Raiders. Cobb Jr. struck out eight in three and two-thirds innings of work.
