By: Zac Bottoms
Arkansas Scouting Director

2017 INF Cooper Van Kooten committed to Little Rock on Thursday. Van Kooten attended the first event PBR Arkansas hosted on October 4th 2015. He makes the 14th player out of the 23 players who attended the event. Here is the complete list of committed players from that event.

2016 MIF Luke Bandy-Dallas Baptist
2016 OF Caleb Carr-Central Arkansas
2016 RHP Cade Canada- Union University
2017 INF Logan Easley- Wichita State
2016 C J. Paul Fullerton-Harding
2017 RHP Logan Gilbertson-Central Arkansas
2016 RHP Ty Gordon-Three Rivers
2016 OF Noah Holt- Harding
2016 OF Evan Hooper-Arkansas
2016 INF Joe Myers-Henderson State
2016 OF Jake Slunder-Murray State
2017 INF Cooper Van Kootem-Little Rock
2016 OF Blake Wynn-Arkansas State

As the list above shows Van Kooten was in good company that day. He has worked hard through out his high school career. I have been fortunate enough to see him play multiple times over the past two years and he continues to get better and show advancement on all of his tools. He participated in the Top Prospects Games this summer at Arvest Ballpark, below you will find my evaluation.

2017 Cooper Van Kooten, MIF/RHP Greenwood HS
Van Kooten is a 6-foot 170-pound middle infielder with a large frame and an athletic build. He shows good infield actions and plays through the baseball. He throws the ball 82 mph across the infield with a loose arm from a high ¾ arm slot. Offensively he attacks the baseball with a line drive swing. He maintains rhythm and balance through extension. He has a feel for his barrel and keeps it in the hit zone for an extended period of time. He runs a 7.10 in the 60. Overall Van Kooten is a solid player who has shown improvement every time I have seen him play, if that continues he will be a solid collegiate player.
