Welcome to Looking Ahead, our look at key matchups that will occur in the coming week from around the Commonwealth. Without further ado, here are games that we find to be especially interesting in the coming week:

LOOKING AHEAD: april 2-7

No. 17 McLean vs James Madison, Tuesday April 3
In previous years, this would have been the first of at least two showdowns between these two teams to determine who would control the Liberty District. Now that Madison is in the Concorde, it is just a fun matchup that should pit two of the best senior arms in Fairfax County against each other in McLean lefty Max Groppe (Emory) and Madison righty Jake Neilsen (BYU). If those two don't get the ball with District games on Friday, look for McLean to go with interesting 2020 prospect Teddy Merritt and Madison to go with 2019 lefty Matt Howat, in what would still be a fun pitcher's duel.

No. 24 Godwin vs No. 6 Hickory and No. 11 Great Bridge, Thursday April 5
Spring break spreads to the southern half of the Commonwealth this week, creating some good intersectional matchups. Among the best of this year's ones will be undefeated and newly-ranked Mills Godwin making the trip to Chesapeake to take on similarly undefeated Hickory and Great Bridge in a doubleheader on Thursday.
