Jody Davis Field played host to the game 3 series finale Friday night between the Lovett Lions and the North Hall Trojans. The game needed extra frames to determine a winner and kept fans, on both sides, at the edge of their seats. North Hall took and held an early lead most of the way, before Lovett eventually tied the game 4-4 with a big 6th inning rally. The Lovett School had the victory snatched away in the bottom of the 7th inning, as Wyatt Nelson was cut down at the plate on an inside-the-park homerun attempt, pushing the game deeper into both teams’ bullpens.  It came down to the last play in the bottom of the 9th, when Peyton Ringer of Lovett scored on a mishandled ground ball by second baseman Tyler Brooks giving Lovett the 5-4 victory, and a birth into the elite eight.

Mark Swett started the game for the Trojans. He went six innings, allowing four runs on six hits and striking out two.  Charlie Erickson (Lagrange College Signee) left it all out there in his final game. The senior catcher led the way at the plate going 2-for-3 with a big two out, two run blast to left. Unfortunately, he took the tough luck loss on the mound for North Hall. He held down a strong Lovett line-up for two and two-thirds innings, allowing three hits and one run while striking out three and walking zero.

Ben O’Meara was clutch in relief, earning the win for the Lions. He surrendered zero runs on one hit over three innings, striking out three and walking zero.  Lovett saw the ball well at the plate, racking up nine hits in the game. Drayton Foster, Peyton Ringer, and Wyatt Nelson all had multiple hits for Lovett in the win. The Lions Advance to the elite eight, as they take on the Southeast Bulloch Jackets next week.
