Prep Baseball Report's MN Fall Review took place on Sunday, October 23, 2016. The event was held at the Vadnais Sports Center in Vadnais Heights, MN. The event featured prospects from Minnesota, Wisconsin & North Dakota from the 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020 classes who showcased their talents in front of our scouting staff and multiple colleges in attendance. Thank you to the players, parents, and my staff for such a great event.

There were a number of great individual performances this year at the MN Fall Review; we have broken down the individual statistics below.

As we drill down into the statistics:

+ 17 players ran sub-7.2 60's.
+ 14 players recorded 84+ mph exit velocities
+ 10 players recorded 78+ mph infield throws
+ 8 players recorded 78+ mph outfield throws
+ 6 catchers recorded 70+ mph throws to second base
+ 6 catchers recorded sub-2.1 pop times
+ 22 pitchers were 80+ mph on the mound

infield prospects 

Aric Arends, 1B, Harvey Wells County (ND), 2017
6-foot-2, 186-pound right-handed hitting first baseman. 7.26 runner. Taller square stance, flat swing plane, ground ball contact, works middle of field, 75 mph exit velocity. Solid athlete at first, works from ground up, soft glove, easy actions around first, long loose arm action, 72 mph arm across infield.

Tyler Brown, 1B/RHP, Buffalo, 2018
6-foot-3, 220-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.88 runner. Square stance, tall upper half, balanced stride, short to contact, clean path through zone, out front at contact, gap to gap approach, 83 mph exit velocity. Makes routine plays, accurate arm, rigid glove, 75 mph arm across infield.

Chandler Buchert, 1B, West Fargo Sheyenne (ND), 2018
5-foot-11, 230-pound right-handed hitting first baseman. 8.63 runner. Square stance, body load, short bat path through zone, lift in swing plane, mid/pull approach, avg. pop in bat, 75 mph exit velocity. Stiff glove, avg. actions, makes accurate throws, 62 mph arm across infield.

Jake Dorff, SS, Blaine, 2018
5-foot-8, 150-pound right-handed hitting shortstop. 7.19 runner. Easy load and stride, leg kick trigger, uphill swing plane, solid contact with extension, gap to gap approach, line drive and fly ball contact, 83 mph exit velocity. Works around ball, quick first step, covers ground, shows solid actions, accurate arm with avg. carry, 76 mph arm across diamond.

Evan Engquist, 1B/RHP, Andover, 2018
6-foot-3, 170-pound left-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.78 runner. Body load, leg kick trigger, some length to swing, flare fly ball contact to opposite field, solid contact and drives baseball when stays on and through, 80 mph exit velocity. Narrow base, solid glove, makes routine plays, accurate arm, 68 mph arm across field.

Kaden Gage, SS/RHP, Eagan, 2018
5-foot-10, 150-pound right-handed hitting, 2-way player. 7.27 runner. Square stance, leg kick trigger, aggressive swinger, loses posture at contact, barrel exits zone early, flashes pop in bat, gap to gap approach, 78 mph exit velocity. Plays flat-footed, rigid movements, has solid glove, accurate to bag, 75 mph arm strength.

Nate Hogan, 3B/RHP, Maple Lake, 2018
6-foot-1, 190-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 8.07 runner. Tall stance, shows rhythm with hands, some stiffness in lower half, inverted swing plane with lift, fly ball contact with pull pop in bat, 77 mph exit velocity. Works around baseball, sure hands, average range, accurate to bag, 75 mph arm strength across infield.

Mac Horvath, SS/RHP, Rochester Century, 2020
6-foot, 160-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 6.9 runner. Athletic stance with slight crouch, generates bat speed and has slight lift through swing plane, pulls off/out early occasionally, hard line drive and fly ball contact with mid/pull approach, 83 mph exit velocity. Above avg. arm with accuracy and carry to bag at 83 mph. Smooth actions, works around and through baseball, sure hands, and plays athletically in the field.

Joseph Hurth, RHP/SS, Hopkins, 2020
6-foot-1, 160-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.64 runner. Slight open stance, strides to square, short hand load, linear hitter, flat bat plane, mid/pull approach, with flashes of hard contact, 76 mph exit velocity. Plays with energy, solid glove skills, works through baseball, quick release with accuracy on throws, 70 mph arm across infield.

Benjamin Hurth, 3B, Hopkins, 2018
6-foot, 175-pound right-handed hitting third baseman. 7.9 runner. Square stance, shoulder load, lift in swing plane, creates solid bat speed, inconsistent lower half in swing, mid/pull approach, flashes of pop when extended through contact, 86 mph exit velocity. Average actions and range in field, glove is occasionally stiff, around bag with throws, short arm action, 75 mph arm across infield.

Alex Jono, RHP/3B, Hopkins, 2018
5-foot-11, 150-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.87 runner. Crouched stance, balanced stride, long load into slot, flat swing plane, rotational lower half, solid ground ball and line drive contact, gap to gap approach, 79 mph exit velocity. Active feet, raw actions defensively, late glove presentation, tends to stab at ball, long clean arm action, 74 mph arm strength across infield.

Ryan Kuechle, 2B, Mankato East, 2019
6-foot, 155-pound right-handed hitting second baseman. 7.65 runner. Tall square stance, tends to lose posture in swing, inverted swing plane, spray contact across field, 79 mph exit velocity. Clean arm action, flashes range and athleticism, avg. glove and actions, 74 mph arm strength across field.

Sam Kulesa, SS, DeLaSalle, 2019
5-foot-8, 140-pound right-handed hitting shortstop. 7.51 runner. Square stance, solid rhythm, loose hands, double tap trigger, line drive swing plane producing ground ball and line drive contact, 79 mph exit velocity. Good footwork in field, solid glove skills, works through ball well, clean arm action, 78 mph arm across infield.

Nicolas Laakkonen, 1B, Coon Rapids, 2018
6-foot, 175-pound left-handed hitting first baseman. 7.53 runner. Closed stance, body load, drops hands in swing, lift in swing plane, flashes pop in bat, mid/pull approach, ground ball and fly ball contact, 82 mph exit velocity. Moves well around bag, makes routine plays, solid glove skills, accurate arm, 69 mph arm across field.

Evan Maass, RHP/3B, Minnetonka, 2019
6-foot-1, 170-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.38 runner. Square stance, body load, leans back at contact, lift in swing plane, spray contact across field, 82 mph exit velocity. Solid athlete, avg. actions and glove, has accuracy and carry to bag, 77 mph arm strength.

John McDermott, 1B, Simley, 2018
6-foot, 235-pound left-handed hitting first baseman. 8.12 runner. Open stance, short stride, active load, short path through zone, uphill swing plane, pull approach, flashes decent pop in bat, 73 mph exit velocity. Avg. defender at first, makes routine plays, solid glove, short arm action, 69 mph arm strength.

Dalton McNamara, SS, Centennial, 2019
5-foot-8, 140-pound left-handed hitting shortstop. 7.07 runner. Open stance, knee to knee trigger, clean bat path, line drive swing plane, easy actions in box with aggressive approach looking to drive baseball, works middle of field well with line drives, 79 mph exit velocity. Active feet, above avg. glove, plays with energy, works through baseball, short repeatable arm action, accurate to bag, 79 mph arm strength. Strong Follow in MN 2019 class.

Noah Meffert, 3B/RHP, Edina, 2020
6-foot-1, 180-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.64 runner. Simple load and stride, balanced swing, slight length to contact, consistent solid contact, clean path to baseball working gap to gap, line drive and  ground ball contact, 79 mph exit velocity. Avg. feet, decent glove, works through and follows throws, long arm action, 73 mph arm across infield.

Logan Meyer, SS/RHP, Totino-Grace, 2020
6-foot, 150-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.64 runner. Narrow crouched stance, steep uphill swing plane, spray contact, mid/away approach, 65 mph exit velocity. Works through ball, solid glove, accurate arm, 69 mph arm strength.

Mason Nadolney, SS/RHP, Minnetonka, 2018
6-foot-4, 210-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. #10 ranked player in MN 2018 class. Large athletic frame. 7.18 runner. Body load, stays inside baseball well, drives hands through contact with strength, mid/pull approach, flashes of power in bat, 89 mph exit velocity. 86 mph arm across infield, soft hands, works through ball with solid actions, accurate to bag with ability to throw from multiple angles. Moves well and is athletic behind plate, hand strength, sticks pitches in zone, length to exchange and release, has direction with feet and stays low on throws with momentum, avg. accuracy to bag, cut action on throws, 75 mph arm strength with 2.1-2.3 pop times.

Austin Nikolas, RHP/SS, St. Cloud Tech, 2018
6-foot, 165-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 6.99 runner. Slightly open stance, drops hands in swing, uphill plane, barrel exits zone early, solid contact with pull approach, 81 mph exit velocity. Athletic raw actions in field, covers ground, glove works, above avg. carry to bag, tends to throw flat-footed across, 79 mph arm across infield.

Cole Parisien, 3B, Bismarck Legacy (ND), 2017
6-foot, 180-pound right-handed hitting third baseman. 7.56 runner. Open stance, strides to square, slight shoulder load, flat plane through zone, finds barrel, mid/pull approach, 80 mph exit velocity. Fluid actions in field, good glove, feet work well, accurate arm to bag, 72 mph arm across infield.

Chris Pipes, 3B/OF, Mankato West, 2017
5-foot-11, 160-pound right-handed hitting primary third baseman. 7.13 runner. Narrow base, minimal load, some present strength, lift in swing plane, ground ball and fly ball contact, tends to roll hands over early through contact, gap to gap approach, 75 mph exit velocity. Shows avg. actions in outfield, fields routine, hitchy arm action, accurate throws to target, 75 mph arm from outfield. Avg. actions in the infield, stiffer glove, moves well on body control, 72 mph arm strength.

Rico Rodriguez, 2B, Hermantown, 2019
5-foot-7, 140-pound left-handed hitting second baseman. 7.5 runner. Open stance, leg kick trigger, narrow base, rotational hitter, out over front side at contact, pull contact, line drive swing plane, 71 mph exit velocity. Average glove and actions in field, fields deep into body occasioanally, short release on throws, 64 mph arm across infield.

Charlie Rubendall, SS, DeLaSalle, 2019
5-foot-9, 140-pound right-handed hitting shortstop. 7.4 runner. Easy actions in box, balanced swing, slight leg kick trigger, good rhythm, line drive swing plane, consistently squares baseball, mid/pull approach, 78 mph exit velocity. Light on his feet, good footwork, soft glove, plays with rhythm and fluidity, long release on throws, accurate to bag, 80 mph arm across infield. Strong Follow in 2019 class.

Decker Scheffler, 2B, Springfield, 2020
6-foot, 165-pound left-handed hitting second baseman. 7.27 runner. Crouches into hitting position, rigid movements, flat swing plane, rotational lower half, pull approach, ground ball contact, 77 mph exit velocity. Sits back to field, decent glove, needs improved footwork and direction playing through ball, avg. accuracy to bag, 71 mph arm strength across field.

Brady Schuster, 3B, Owatonna, 2018
6-foot, 185-pound right-handed hitting third baseman. 7.32 runner. Simple balanced setup, easy swing, some stiffness in lower half with straight legs into contact, gap to gap approach, consistently squares baseball, 84 mph exit velocity. Easy actions in field, makes routine, soft glove, above avg. accuracy to bag, 72 mph arm across infield.

Ryan Sleeper, LHP/1B, 2019
6-foot-3, 185-pound left-handed hitting 2-way player. Strong Follow in 2019 class. Athletic frame that should continue to add strength. 7.39 runner. Square stance, double tap trigger, creates good direction in swing, line drive swing plane with lift, drives baseball, arm bar causes length to contact, 86 mph exit velocity. Well above athlete at first base, soft glove, easy actions, above avg. arm, 83 mph arm across diamond.

Eathan Soeffker, 3B/RHP, 2018
6-foot-2, 190-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.73 runner. Shows rhythm in load, stays through zone well with barrel, gap to gap approach, hard contact to middle of field, 89 mph exit velocity. Shows good glove, avg. range, long release on accurate throws to bag, 82 mph arm across infield.

Bennett Theisen, 3B/RHP, Minnehaha Academy, 2019
6-foot, 195-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.44 runner. Square stance, avg. rhythm, choppy actions, rotational hitter, present strength, flashes hard pull contact, 85 mph exit velocity. Light on his feet, reads hops well, soft glove, above avg. arm with carry and accuracy, 84 mph arm strength across diamond. Follow in 2019 class.

TJ Truso, SS, Chanhassen, 2018
5-foot-10, 165-pound right-handed hitting shortstop. #31 ranked player in MN 2018 class. 7.14 runner. Danier Wuxihong, OF/IF, Winona Cotter, 2018
6-foot-1, 170-pound right-handed hitting outfielder. Interesting 2018 prospect. 7.15 runner. Slight double tap trigger, short to contact, consistently squares baseball with hard contact to middle of field, uses hands in swing and incorporates lower half, 85 mph exit velocity. Fundamentally sound on defense, reads hops well, plays through ball, long clean arm action, throws have carry and accuracy to target, 82 mph arm from outfield.
