MN Fall Review- Outfield Analysis

Prep Baseball Report's MN Fall Review took place on Sunday, October 23, 2016. The event was held at the Vadnais Sports Center in Vadnais Heights, MN. The event featured prospects from Minnesota, Wisconsin & North Dakota from the 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020 classes who showcased their talents in front of our scouting staff and multiple colleges in attendance. Thank you to the players, parents, and my staff for such a great event.

There were a number of great individual performances this year at the MN Fall Review; we have broken down the individual statistics below.

As we drill down into the statistics:

+ 17 players ran sub-7.2 60's.
+ 14 players recorded 84+ mph exit velocities
+ 10 players recorded 78+ mph infield throws
+ 8 players recorded 78+ mph outfield throws
+ 6 catchers recorded 70+ mph throws to second base
+ 6 catchers recorded sub-2.1 pop times
+ 22 pitchers were 80+ mph on the mound

outfield prospects 

Joshua Fussy, OF, Buffalo, 2017
5-foot-8, 140-pound right-handed hitting outfielder. 7.2 runner. Square crouched stance, body load, short to contact with weight transfer through swing, uses whole field, spray contact, avg. pop in bat, 73 mph exit velocity. Quick to the baseball, fields on side of ball occasionally, slightly elevated throws to target, solid accuracy, 77 mph arm strength from outfield.

Dylan Hoffman, LHP/OF, St. Michael-Albertville, 2019
5-foot-8, 133-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.38 runner. Square stance, body load, double tap trigger, pre-set hands and is short to contact, line drive swing plane, avg. pop in bat, mid/away approach, 78 mph exit velocity. Avg. actions in field, plays himself into bad hops occasionally, sinking action on throws from low ¾ arm slot, 68 mph arm strength from outfield.

Alex Jacob, OF, Bismarck Century (ND), 2017
5-foot-9, 165-pound right-handed hitting outfielder. 6.75 runner. Strong setup in box, wider base, creates good bat speed through zone, consistently barrels baseball, mid/pull approach, hard line drive contact, 82 mph exit velocity. Above avg. feet and actions in field, reads hops well, quick release on throws with carry and accuracy to target, 86 mph arm strength from outfield.

Ethan Kippes, OF/RHP, Sioux Falls Lincoln (SD), 2019
6-foot-1, 179-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.52 runner. Active load, inconsistent lower half and bat path, mid-away approach, solid pop in bat, 81 mph exit velocity. Limited momentum through baseball, tends to field and throw flat footed, elevated to target, 70 mph arm from outfield.

Logan Krenik, OF, Edina, 2017
5-foot-11, 175-pound right-handed hitting outfielder. #172 ranked player in MN 2017 class. 6.9 runner. Simple load and stride, spin hitter, barrel exits zone early, pull approach, produces good bat speed, 87 mph exit velocity. Plays through ball well, decent actions and fielding ability, avg. arm with accuracy to target, 76 mph arm strength.

Landon Max, RHP/OF, Anoka, 2017
5-foot-9, 215-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.47 runner. Square stance, body load, stiff lower half, lift in swing plane, gap to gap approach, 82 mph exit velocity. Sits back, long release on throws, elevated throws to target, 78 mph arm from outfield.

Michael O’Malley, OF, Robbinsdale Armstrong, 2017
5-foot-11, 190-pound right-handed hitting outfielder. 7.31 runner. Square stance, no stride, front heel turn trigger, short to contact, flashes strength in swing, stays on baseball through contact, gap to gap approach, 82 mph exit velocity. Plays through ball, good momentum on throws, solid footwork and actions, accurate throws to target, 74 mph arm strength.

Kas Palzkill, OF, Eau Claire Memorial (WI), 2018
5-foot-10, 150-pound right-handed hitting outfielder. 6.96 runner. High hand set, drops into flat swing plane, hitchy load and stride, line drive and fly ball contact, mid/pull approach, with flashes of pop in bat, 79 mph exit velocity. Aggressive fielder, winds up to throw, long release, accurate to target, 76 mph arm strength.

Chris Pipes, 3B/OF, Mankato West, 2017
5-foot-11, 160-pound right-handed hitting primary third baseman. 7.13 runner. Narrow base, minimal load, some present strength, lift in swing plane, ground ball and fly ball contact, tends to roll hands over early through contact, gap to gap approach, 75 mph exit velocity. Shows avg. actions in outfield, fields routine, hitchy arm action, accurate throws to target, 75 mph arm from outfield.

Jake Prybylla, OF/RHP, Mankato East, 2019
6-foot, 150-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 6.89 runner. Square stance, simple setup, slight body load, loose hands in swing, squares baseball consistently, mid/pull approach, 78 mph exit velocity. Good direction and angles to field, plays through baseball, throws show accuracy and carry to target, 80 mph arm from outfield.

Nate Rivers, OF/RHP, Minneapolis Southwest, 2018
6-foot, 160-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.52 runner. Tall stance, body load, high back elbow load, some length to contact, flashes pop in bat to pull side of field, 80 mph exit velocity. Athletic actions in outfield, good footwork, plays through ball, with above avg. accuracy and carry on throws to target, 87 mph arm from outfield.

Casey Storlie, LHP/OF, Caledonia, 2019
6-foot-2, 150-pound left-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.03 runner. Tall stance, steps across body, cuts off lower half, solid line drive swing plane, pull approach with line drive and fly ball contact, 80 mph exit velocity. Easy actions, avg. tempo and quickness, short arm action, loses momentum on throws, has solid carry and accuracy to target, 80 mph arm from outfield.

Noah Thomas, OF/LHP, East Ridge, 2018
5-foot-8, 145-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. #41 ranked player in MN 2018 class. 6.68 runner. Square stance, easy rhythm in load, transfers weight well through swing, uses whole field, consistently squares baseball, line drive and fly ball contact. 79 mph exit velocity. Good routes and angles, confident fielder, plays through baseball with momentum on throws, occasionally slings and throws uphill, solid accuracy and carry to target, 78 mph arm from outfield.

Sam Vujovich, OF, Simley, 2018
5-foot-10, 160-pound left-handed hitting outfielder. 7.49 runner. Leg kick trigger, active load with rhythm, inconsistent trigger occasionally, clean path, mid/away approach, barrels baseball well, 71 mph exit velocity. Avg. actions in outfield, tends to sit back on ball and throw flat-footed, low arm slot, sinking action on throws with accuracy to target, 67 mph arm strength from outfield.

Danier Wuxihong, OF/IF, Winona Cotter, 2018
6-foot-1, 170-pound right-handed hitting outfielder. Interesting 2018 prospect. 7.15 runner. Slight double tap trigger, short to contact, consistently squares baseball with hard contact to middle of field, uses hands in swing and incorporates lower half, 85 mph exit velocity. Fundamentally sound on defense, reads hops well, plays through ball, long clean arm action, throws have carry and accuracy to target, 82 mph arm from outfield.
