MN Future Games Trials- Outfield Evaluations

Prep Baseball Report's MN Future Games Trials event took place July 6, 2016. The event was held at Vet's Field at Minnetonka HS in Minnetonka, MN. The event featured prospects from the 2018 class from Minnesota who showcased their talents in front of our scouting staff. Thank you to the players, parents, my staff; and Coach Paul Twenge and Minnetonka HS for such a great event.

There were a number of great individual performances this year at the MN Future Games Trials; as we drill down into the statistics:

+ 16 players ran sub-7.25 60's.
+ 20 players recorded 80+ mph exit velocities
+ 12 players recorded 76+ mph infield throws
+ 9 players recorded 76+ mph outfield throws
+ 12 catchers recorded 70+ mph throws to second base
+ 6 catchers recorded sub-2.1 pop times
+ 18 pitchers were 78+ mph on the mound

Below is our breakdown of the player's in attendance with our evaluations on outfielders. Players are listed below in alphabetical order.

Andrew Andresen, SS/OF/RHP, Minnetonka, 2018
5-foot-9, 142-pound right-handed hitting player. 7.25 runner. Slight load, leans back at contact, solid bat path, gap to gap hitter with avg. pop in bat. 78 mph exit velocity. Aggressive routes with good direction and footwork. Quick release on throws with above avg. carry and accuracy to target. 85 mph arm strength from outfield.

Carter Brinkman, OF, Sleepy Eye, 2018
6-foot, 150-pound left-handed hitting outfielder. 7.56 runner. Easy load with simple hitting mechanics. Consistent solid contact. Lacks explosion through contact. Gap to gap approach with clean swing plane. Follow bat with continued development and added strength. 70 mph exit velocity. Fields ball cleanly in outfield, solid routes, long release on throws, short arm action with avg. carry and accuracte throws with 76 mph arm strength.

Tommy Deters, OF, Orono, 2018
5-foot-11, 170-pound right-handed hitting outfielder. 6.91 runner. Simple stance, heavy uphill swing plane, flyball contact underneath baseball, minimal weight shift, mid/away contact. 76 mph exit velocity. Quick feet and plays with energy. Trouble with transfers occasionally. Solid athlete with accurate online throws to target with 84 mph arm strength.

Chester Dixon, SS/OF, Edina, 2018
5-foot-9, 150-pound right-handed hitting player. 7.16 runner. Shoulder load, front knee trigger, inline stride, aggressive swinger. Flat line drive swing plane. Consistent hard contact with mid/pull approach. 76 mph exit velocity. Above average feet and glove in outfield. Quick clean throws from high ¾ arm slot. Shows solid carry and accuracy to target with 82 mph arm strength from outfield.

Joseph Ferris, OF, Home School, 2018
5-foot-10, 150-pound right-handed hitting outfielder. 6.65 runner. Deeper load, leg kick trigger, choppy rhythm in swing, flat line drive swing plane, hard oppo line drive contact, stiffer finish. 74 mph exit velocity. Shows athleticism in field, light on his feet, long arm action, aggressive routes to ball, average carry and accuracy to target. 79 mph arm strength from outfield.

Cole Kraemer, RHP/OF, Rosemount, 2018
6-foot-1, 180-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.09 runner. Simple stance, short to contact, consistent hard contact, flashes pop in bat, mid/pull approach, stiffer lower half and finish in swing. 80 mph exit velocity. Solid defender and athlete in field. Decent actions, long release on throws, elevated to target, solid accuracy. 82 mph arm strength from outfield.

Colten Kraling, LHP/OF, Fillmore Central, 2018
6-foot, 165-pound left-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.53 runner. Easy load, out and around at contact, mid/pull approach, loses posture and leverage in swing. 74 mph exit velocity. Average routes and direction on throws. Decent glove. Sinking action on throws and avg. carry with 75 mph arm strength from outfield.

Brendan McKevitt, OF, East Ridge, 2018
5-foot-10, 155-pound left-handed hitting outfielder. 7.13 runner. Easy rock and stride trigger. Short to contact, good hand-eye to baseball, solid gap to gap approach with avg./above avg. pop in bat. 79 mph exit velocity. Good feet and glove in field. Appropriate routes and angles. Aggressive confident fielder. Stiff arm action from OT arm slot. 76 mph arm strength from outfield with accuracy. Interesting follow with bat in MN 2018 class.

Garrett Olson, OF, Minnetonka, 2017
6-foot-1, 180-pound right-handed hitting outfielder. 7.33 runner. Strong athletic build. Crouched upper half, cuts off through swing. Hard line drive contact. Showed ability to drive ball to oppo gap. 82 mph exit velocity. Creates good angles to ball. Feet become heavy to field. Stiff one-piece arm action with avg. carry and accuracy. 76 mph arm strength from outfield.

Jack Sievers, OF, Shakopee, 2018
5-foot-7, 160-pound right-handed hitting outfielder. 6.97 runner. Easy leg kick trigger, long stride to contact, linear actions in box, short to contact, good extension through, consistent solid contact and uses whole field. 85 mph exit velocity. 81 mph arm strength. Good angles and direction on throws, uses momentum and is aggressive through baseball. Throws are online with accuracy to target and solid carry.

Phoenix Sproles, OF, Robbinsdale Cooper, 2018
5-foot-11, 165-pound right-handed hitting outfielder. 6.85 runner. Good runner with solid athleticism. Raw mechanically at plate with pull approach and flashes of pop in bat. 63 mph exit velocity. First step quickness and long strides in field. Athletic fielder with soft glove and appropriate footwork. Stiff arm action from low ¾ slot. 72 mph arm strength.
