CLASS AAAA SCOUT BLOG

Minnetonka 2018 grad, Aaron Wukmir, competed well on mound for Skippers. Senior RHP, U. Minnesota-Duluth commit, was 84-86 mph early in his outing with a sweeping 76-77 slider showing 11/5 shape.

2019 Patrick Timmer, 2B, Lakeville North- left-handed hitting second baseman. Routinely squares baseball with gap to gap approach, shows sure hands in field with athletic actions in field and at the plate. Projects as 2-hole type hitter and solid defender at the college level.

Jarod Wandersee, Minnetonka's second baseman and Concordia St. Paul commit showed value both defensively and offensively. Wandersee played both middle positions making the routine play and taking away a hit by flashing the leather.  He shows good instincts and soft hands.  In the box, he displayed good barrel awareness by laying down a bunt and also driving the ball the other way for a deep flyout

2019 Gavin Baker, SS, Lakeville North- Strength is in the bat. Shows aggressive approach with balanced swing and shows ability to drive baseball. Solid athleticism with sure hands in field. May have to move off of SS at higher level; but shows enough offensive potential to be an attractive option to many college level programs.

2018 Tommy Springer, RHP, Eastview- Missouri commit. Was consistently 90-91 mph, touching 92 mph early with solid command in the strike zone. Breaking ball shows potential to be a swing and miss pitch in college with late break in zone, 12/6 shape, thrown at 79-83 mph.

2019 Drew Gilbert, LHP/OF, Stillwater- Oregon State commit. Smaller athletic frame with quick twitch actions. Gilbert was consistently 93 mph on mound pitching primarily with his fastball. Sporadic 90 and 91's; while also touching 94 mph and peaking at 95 mph in the first inning.

- 6/15/18- Gilbert is having himself a State Tournament.  Today he showed pop in the box hitting for power to both sides of the field. The three-hole hitter had a double to left center and a triple late down the right field line.  Defensively he showed plus range and took away multiple hits both coming in and going back on the ball

Will Frisch, a 2019 TCU commit started on the mound for Stillwater.  He didn't have the best command today but was consistently in the low 90's and in the 2nd inning threw multiple 94's.  Frisch also did it with the bat today from the cleanup spot. He showed power the other way with a double to right center and was in the middle of all the scoring with teammate Gilbert.

2018 Nathaniel Peterson, LHP, Lakeville North- Oklahoma State commit. Senior arm was 85-89 mph with varying action on fastball and avg/solid command of strike zone. Also showed two breaking balls; a slower get-me-over curveball at 73-76 mph with 1/7 shape and a harder slider with 2/8 shape at 79-81 mph that had flashes of late break.

2019 Will Anderson, LHP, St. Michael-Albertville- thin athletic frame. #8 ranked player in MN 2019 class. Currently uncommitted. Anderson was 82-86  mph from left-side and showed competitiveness on mound. Has poise, pitches with rhythm, moves around the field with athleticism, and controls the running game well.

2018 MN St Mankato commit and Blaine short-stop Mike Gottschalk showed patience and a scrappy approach at the plate.  He was on base three times against Stillwater, twice by walk and the other by a single to right.  In the field he showed solid actions with a quick release and a sure glove.

2018 LHP Teddy Tauer - Red Wing. Tauer opened last years state tournament for Red Wing. Experienced showed through command of both a FB that touched 82 and 2/8 rolling BB in the mid 60’s. Tauer mixed his way to 5 hits, 1 ER, and only 2 walks over 7 innings

2020 RHP Leo Bustos - Mahtomedi. Bustos Stretched a great start 6 innings and scattered 7 hits and 2 runs. He sat 75-77 with a slinging action creating slight natural arm side run. 10/4 BB in mid-upper 60’s flashed advanced shape. Lanky frame with loose extremities

2018 NDSU commit Ben Smith from South St. Paul is a tall, bigger bodied RHP with loose actions on a FB that climbed to 89 with late life and slight sink. The BB wasn’t used much but was tight on an 11/5 path at 73.

2020 South St. Paul CF Brandon Reynolds didn’t look much like a sophomore. Reynolds flashed speed on the bases and in CF. The LHH seemed willing to take on pitches and battle in his at bats. Plane is simple into the zone with some pop in the hands.

2019 South St. Paul RHP Timmy Smith was a bulldog in relief. He showed an advanced feel for his BB in the mid 60’s on a 10/4 plane. His FB ran to 82 from a low 3/4 slot with heavy arm side fade. The CH was less developed but came at 72 with slight drop. Smith has a high hip line on a slender frame and showed decent coordination for someone with his length.

2019 Catcher Drey Dirksen of Willmar used his infield session to display above average arm strength to all bases. He has a short arm action with good wrist finish creating carry on his throws. He flashed soft hands receiving with that wrist strength showing at the plate in the few swings he took. Bigger kid with room to add to frame.

2018 LHP and NDSU commit Brock Anderson put in a days work over his 5.2 innings pitched. 10 K's were coupled with 8 walks on only 2 hits and one run given up. The lefty ran the FB up to 87 with natural movement that was complimented by a BB with + 1-7 downhill shape between 70-72. The CH had less feel but was mixed in for a third pitch with good difference at 74 mph

2018 left handed hitting catcher and MSU-Mankato commit Hunter Ranweiler of New Ulm showed the presence and feel behind the plate that is above average. He manages pitchers well, is a + blocker with an exceptionally smooth ability to slide with ease to body up baseballs. His balanced approach at the plate gives time to see pitches and show and advanced knowledge of the strike zone. He even stole a base.

2019 Carter Stockert, LHP, Alexandria- long rangy frame. Has thinned out over last 12-15 months. Stiff shouldered delivery, strike thrower, consistently 82-84 mph. Fastball travels on extreme downhill tilted plane. Breaking ball has large early shape and is released from same release point as fastball. North Dakota State commit.

2020 Jack Steil, SS, Rocori- athletic frame with above avg. actions in field. Throws are online to bag with accuracy. Feet are stagnant at times to field creating some stiffness in hands; but is readily fixable with instruction and development. Shows bat speed with ability to square baseball consistently at plate. Projects as one of better players in MN 2020 class.
