Prep Baseball Report's MN Unsigned Senior Showcase took place on Sunday, August 21, 2016. The event was held at the University of Northwestern-St. Paul in St. Paul, MN. The event featured prospects from Minnesota, Wisconsin, South & North Dakota from the 2017 class who showcased their talents in front of our scouting staff and multiple colleges in attendance. Thank you to the players, parents, my staff and UNW-St. Paul Head Coach Dave Hieb for such a great event.

There were a number of great individual performances this year at the MN Unsigned Senior Showcase; we have broken down the individual statistics below.

As we drill down into the statistics:

+ 11 players ran sub-7.2 60's.
+ 19 players recorded 84+ mph exit velocities
+ 9 players recorded 78+ mph infield throws
+ 12 players recorded 78+ mph outfield throws
+ 9 catchers recorded 70+ mph throws to second base
+ 3 catchers recorded sub-2.1 pop times
+ 26 pitchers were 80+ mph on the mound

OUTFIELD EVALUATIONS

Andrew Berglund, OF, Becker, 2017
5-foot-5, 130-pound left-handed hitting outfielder. 7.41 runner. Square stance, simple swing short to contact, slight uphill plane, consistent solid line drive approach, works mid/pull-side of field. 63 mph exit velocity. Solid routes, long arm action action, extra steps and length to release, elevated throws to plate, accurate to target, 70 mph arm strength from outfield.

Jake Carlson, OF, Princeton, 2017
5-foot-5, 165-pound right-handed hitting outfielder. 7.07 runner. Strong compact frame, open stance, strides across body, short path to baseball, above avg. pop in bat, consistent solid contact with line drive approach, 84 mph exit velocity. Avg. routes, short arm action, uses momentum, solid carry and accuracy on throws, 82 mph arm strength from outfield.

Drew DeMers, OF, Winner (SD), 2017
5-foot-10, 165-pound right-handed hitting outfielder. 7.06 runner. Active load and stride. Consistent solid contact, good hand eye coordination, mid/pull approach with line drive contact, 70 mph exit velocity. Average actions in field, works through baseball, uphill tilt to shoulders with long arm action, elevated throws to plate, 69 mph arm strength from outfield.

Alex Evenson, LHP/OF, Minnehaha Academy, 2017
6-foot-1, 175-pound left-handed hitting 2-way player. Lean athletic build. 7.44 runner. Flat bat setup, body load, aggressive inline swing, gap to gap approach, consistent hard line drive contact, 86 mph exit velocity. Good hands and feet, creates direction on throws, works through ball well, solid accuracy with occasional elevated throws, 83 mph arm from outfield.

Nick Haivala, LHP/OF, Sturgis Brown (SD), 2017
6-foot, 145-pound left-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.94 runner. Open stance, strides to square, quiet head to contact, consistent solid contact, mid/pull line drive approach, 75 mph exit velocity. Solid feet and actions, creates direction on throws, throws flat footed occasionally, low ¾ arm slot effects accuracy and carry to home plate, 72 mph arm strength from outfield. Sound defender at first, has solid range, makes routine plays, and shows ability to receive around bag. 73 mph arm strength across diamond.

Nathan Hein, OF, Yankton (SD), 2017
6-foot-2, 200-pound right-handed hitting outfielder. 7.78 runner. Square stance, active hand load, short stride with balance, shifts weight well through contact, consistent solid contact with mid/pull approach, 74 mph exit velocity. Heavier feet in field, appropriate routes and angles, avg. range, short arm action with avg. carry and accuracy, 75 mph arm strength from outfield.

Justin Hoffmann, OF, New Ulm, 2017
6-foot, 170-pound left-handed hitting outfielder. Athletic build. #72 ranked player in MN 2017 class. 6.88 runner. Square stance with body load, creates bat speed, mid/away approach, flashes of pop in bat, lift in swing plane, 76 mph exit velocity. Moves well in outfield, plays through ball, long arm draw on backside with front shoulder tilt, short release out front, avg. carry with solid accuracy to target, 76 mph arm strength.

William Huls, OF, Rocori, 2017
6-foot-1, 170-pound right-handed hitting outfielder. 7.01 runner. Closed stance with short stride, rotational hitter, hard ground ball contact, gap to gap approach, 89 mph exit velocity. Fast twitch athletic actions in field, covers ground well with long strides, above avg. direction and momentum on throws- plays through ball, 79 mph arm strength from outfield.

Logan Krenik, OF, Edina, 2017
5-foot-11, 175-pound right-handed hitting outfielder. 7.09 runner. Lower hand load with collapse to contact, aggressive swinger, flashes present strength, line drive and fly ball contact, 82 mph exit velocity. Pie arm action if field, spins off after release, avg. carry with accuracy to target, 77 mph arm strength from outfield. Shows decent hands in infield. Moves with short steps, avg. actions, with solid accuracy to bag at 75 mph.

Bruce Lewis, OF, Henry Sibley, 2017
5-foot-9, 160-pound left-handed hitting outfielder. 7.77 runner. High back elbow setup, body load, transfers weight through contact, stiff bat plane through zone, line drive contact, mid/pull approach, 75 mph exit velocity. Solid routes in field, plays through ball, long 1-piece arm action, evevated throws to target with avg. accuracy, 76 mph arm strength from outfield.

Alex Lindstrom, OF, Eastview, 2017
6-foot-1, 175-pound left-handed hitting outfielder. Strong compact build. #34 ranked player in MN 2017 class. 7.31 runner. Body load, short to contact, with above avg. bat speed and present strength in swing. 91 mph exit velocity. Solid routes, playable arm with accuracy to target, should continue to develop and improve in outfield. 80 mph arm strength from outfield. Bat is carrying tool and one of better LHH’s in state.

Johnny Miller, LHP/OF, Minnetonka, 2017
6-foot-2, 170-pound left-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.76 runner. Medium base, leg kick trigger, spins on back leg causing hands to roll-over early at contact, mid/pull approach producing line drives and ground balls, 79 mph exit velocity. Solid actions with long levers in outfield, avg. momentum on throws, OT arm slot, elevated throws to plate, 76 mph arm strength from outfield.

Lucas Mohn, OF/RHP, Hatton (ND), 2017
5-foot-9, 180-pound left-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.5 runner. Square stance, low hand slot, minimal use of lower half in swing, rotational hitter, mid/pull approach, 80 mph exit velocity. Adequate range, plays with heavier feet, field cleanly and out front, short arm action with avg. carry and accuracy to target, 78 mph arm strength from outfield.

Brock Reller, OF/LHP, Grand Forks Central (ND), 2017
6-foot-1, 210-pound left-handed hitting 2-way player. Strong compact build with loose actions. 7.2 runner. Balanced stance, front heel turn trigger, clean line drive bat path, elevates baseball with pop in bat, mid/pull approach, 93 mph exit velocity. Simple actions in outfield, shows ability to field, works through ball, minimal effort on throws, above avg. carry with accuracy to target, 90 mph arm strength from outfield.

Jason Sarp, OF, Edina, 2017
6-foot-2, 160-pound right-handed hitting outfielder. Projectable lean athletic build. 7.33 runner. Wider square stance, body load, solid swing mechanics, works middle of field, line drive approach, with flashes of pop in bat, 76 mph exit velocity. Aggressive fielder, good actions in field, loose athletic body, stays level on throws with long clean arm action, above avg. carry and accuracy to target, 82 mph arm from outfield.

Austin Schneider, RHP/OF, Delano, 2017
6-foot-2, 190-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.4 runner. Wider closed stance, stiff swing plane through contact, limited weight shift, works middle of field, ground ball and line drive contact, 79 mph exit velocity. Solid actions in outfield, plays through ball, limited use of front side on throws, long arm action from ¾ slot, avg. accuracy and carry, 82 mph arm strength.

Jordan Schramel, RHP/OF, Delano, 2017
6-foot, 180-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. #38 ranked player in MN 2017 class. 7.28 runner. Body load with double tap trigger. Slight collapse to contact, flat line drive swing plane, shows ability to use whole field, consistent solid contact with flashes of pop in bat, 81 mph exit velocity. Shows good actions in field with above avg. footwork and glove, could use greater momentum playing through throws, has above avg. carry and accuracy to target, 85 mph arm strength from outfield.

Jack Stoddard, OF/RHP, Waconia, 2017
5-foot-10, 155-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.01 runner. Tall stance, preset hands, leg kick trigger, stiffer path through zone, short finish after contact, solid pull contact from flat swing plane, 78 mph exit velocity. Plays through ball well, soft hands, good direction with feet, short arm action, fast hand speed on release, solid carry and accuracy to target, 84 mph arm strength from outfield.

Nick Sturnieks, RHP/OF, Robbinsdale Armstrong, 2017
6-foot-5, 185-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. #147 ranked player in MN 2017 class. 7.47 runner. Low hand setup, leg kick trigger, stiff swing plane, straight legs with limited weight shift, gap to gap approach with avg. pop in bat, 77 mph exit velocity. Average feet, routes and angles in field, soft glove, fields out front, elevated throws to target with solid carry and accuracy, 83 mph arm strength from outfield.

Austin Weisz, OF, Little Falls, 2017
5-foot-8, 150-pound left-handed hitting outfielder. 7.31 runner. High back elbow setup, loads into lower slot, very quick hands to contact, aggressive swinger, consistent hard contact, gap to gap approach with ability to use whole field, 77 mph exit velocity. Good routes in field, plays through baseball, uses momentum on throws with good direction, short arm action, online throws to target with accuracy, 78 mph arm strength from outfield.
