MOKAN Top Prospects: Left Handed Pitchers Edition

The MoKan Top Prospect Games took place on June 22nd at Creekside Baseball Park in Parkville Missouri. A full event of 53 players, including some of the top players from the 2022 graduating class, showed out with some eye popping numbers.  Today we take an in depth breakdown of all the left handed pitchers that attended.  There were 6 arms from the left side that showed some upside and some plus pitches.

Kade Biellier OF / LHP / Willard, MO / 2022

Positional Profile: OF/LHP

Body: 5-foot-11, 170-pound athletic frame with room for added strength and size in the future.

Delivery: On the mound works exclusively out of the stretch position.  Works to a short balance point with quick tempo.  Hands set at the back shoulder with ball working straight back out of the glove.  Rocks back into a stiff front leg with good push off the rubber down to a firm plant leg.  Works from the center of the rubber and strides directionally down the center of the mound.  Max effort in the delivery.

Arm Action: High ¾ arm slot with a short arm action and good hand speed.

FB: 82-83 mph, arm side run with good tilting action at the bottom of the zone.

SL: 70-72 mph, tight spin with late depth and good east/west action.

CB: 71-73 mph, 12/6 shape with good depth and the ability to land it in the zone.

CH: 71-76 mph, heavy arm side fade with good depth.

Jack DuMont LHP / 1B / St. Louis University , MO / 2022

Positional Profile: LHP

Body: 6-foot-3, 205-pound physical and athletic frame with present strength especially in the lower half.

Delivery: On the mound uses a rocker style footwork around the rubber with a smooth rhythm and mid height balance point.  Hands work up and down in sync with the lower half and breaks from the glove at the mid chest.  Gets good sinking and drive out of the back leg into a firm plant leg.  Heavy body rotation off the plant leg.  Head stays quiet throughout the delivery.  Works to a low front glove side with glove working behind the back at release.  Maintains balance throughout the delivery.

Arm Action: LH.  ¾ arm slot with a short arm action and release.

FB: 86-87 mph, heavy arm side run with hop through the zone with solid spin metrics.

SL: 72-73 mph, two-plane breaker with loose spin and shape.

CH: 82-84 mph, firmer change up with good hand speed and solid arm side fading action.

Steven Mesa Jr LHP / OF / Olathe Northwest, KS / 2022

Positional Profile: OF/LHP

Body: 5-foot-9, 160-pound lean and developing frame with room for added strength and size in the future.

Delivery: On the mound uses a short rocker style delivery working to a mid height balance point.  Smooth rhythm and pace throughout the delivery with hands staying mostly quiet throughout the process.  Works from the first base side of the rubber and strides directionally down the center of the mound.  Gets slight push off the rubber with the back foot and utilizes the slope well down the mound.  Lands to a soft plant leg with strong rotation from the back leg coming through after release.

Arm Action: Over the top arm slot with a slightly cupped arm action.

FB: 78-81 mph, heavy arm side run and sinking action.

CB: 63-67 mph, 12/6 shape with late depth and developing spin.

CH: 63-66 mph, heavy downward fading action with fastball hand speed.

Jack Niedringhaus LHP / OF / MICDS, MO / 2022

Positional Profile: LHP

Body: 6-foot, 185-pound athletic and strong frame with room for size in the future.

Delivery: On the mound uses a big rocker style delivery working to a high balance point.  Quick tempo and pace to the delivery.  Slight crunch in the upper body at the top of the balance point.  Full weight stack onto the back leg with good push off the rubber to a firm front leg.  Full effort in the delivery but maintains his athleticism throughout.  Slight coil in the hips at the top of the balance point with the hands breaking cleanly out of the glove in rhythm.  Works from the middle of the rubber and strides directionally down the center of the mound.

Arm Action: LH.  High ¾ arm slot with hand working straight down out of the glove and a shorter arm action with good hand speed.  

FB: 79-84 mph, heavy arm side run with running life through the zone with solid spin metrics and vertical break.

SL: 68-70 mph, 3/9 shape with short and late depth.

CH: 75-76 mph, downward depth with fastball hand speed.

Cade Perkins LHP / OF / Manhattan , KS / 2022

Positional Profile: 1B/OF/LHP

Body: 6-foot-1, 175-pound athletic and projectable frame with room for added strength and size in the future. 

Delivery: On the mound works exclusively out of the stretch.  Works from the far third base side of the rubber and strides on the first base side of the slope creating tough angles on hitters.  Quick pace to the delivery working to a mid height balance point with slight coil of the hips and shoulders at the top of the balance point.  Tall stack on the back leg and sinks and pushes hard off the rubber into a firm plant leg.  Strong rotation of the body off the plant leg.

Arm Action: High ¾ arm slot with hand working straight down out of the glove and a shorter arm action with good hand speed.  

FB: 84-86 mph, slight cutting action with good command to the glove side.  Tough driving angles into RHH and away from LHH.

SL: 69-72 mph, tight spinning two-plane break with good action and makings of a plus pitch in the future.

Landon Reith LHP / OF / De Soto, KS / 2022

Positional Profile: 1B/OF/LHP

Body: 6-foot-1, 160-pound long and lean projectable build with room for added strength and size in the future.

Delivery: On the mound uses a short rocker style delivery around the rubber working to a mid height balance point and upright posture with the upper half.  Slight stall out at as the plant leg works down the slope.  Tight coil of the core at the top of the balance point.  Works to a short stride with a firm plant leg.  Works from the middle of the rubber and strides directionally down the center of the mound.  Maintains balance throughout the delivery.  

Arm Action: High ¾ arm slot with hand working straight down out of the glove with a shorter arm action.  

FB: 76-80 mph, very heavy horizontal movement with the ability to land it in the zone.

CB: 66-73 mph, rolling and loopy shape with good spin metrics.

CH: 66-69 mph, strong arm side fade with some late depth.
