The table is set for the MPSSAA 4A State Championship game slated for Friday, May 24 at Ripken stadium in Aberdeen, MD. It is the Sherwood Warriors out of Montgomery County who will take on the Old Mill Patriots out of Arundel County who will compete for the title. Below we take a look at how both teams got there.

Warriors Too Much For Roosevelt

The Sherwood offense struck early and often, exploding for nine runs in the first four innings as the Warriors took out Eleanor Roosevelt 11-1

The Warriors struck early in the game, getting four runs on four hits and one Roosevelt error. Michael Bouma, Bradshaw Steeley and Josh Braun each had RBI singles in the inning. They would strike again in the second from an RBI double from Josh Bowers that was followed by another RBI from Bouma.

In the third inning a Ben Vok 2-RBI single to right extended the Warrior lead. Roosevelt would respond with a run in the fifth inning, and then Sherwood answered with two more runs in the sixth inning that gave them a ten run lead. The game would end after six complete due to high school mercy rule.

Vok led the Sherwood offense with three RBI in a 2-for-4 day. Bowers, Bouma Steeley, and Jake Becker each had two hits apiece in the offensive onslaught. Ian Brady got the win in four innings of work scattering two hits with four strikeouts and two walks.

Derek Ohringer led the Roosevelt offense with two hits on the day and an RBI.

Late Inning Dramatics Propel Old Mill

The Old Mill Patriots defeated the Walt Whitman Vikings in the final play of the game to advance to the MPSSAA State Championship game on Friday.

In what turned out to be an exciting and great game, Whitman was able to strike immediately in the first inning when Justin Carboni knocked in Sam Mermelstein on a single to left. Matt Ryan extended the early lead two batters later with another RBI single pu the middle to give the Vikings the early 2-0 lead. Old Mill would respond in the bottom of the frame when leadoff hitter Ian Adams scored on a wild pitch to cut into the lead.

Whitman would extend their lead in the top of the third inning when 2019 Jack Ryan (UMBC) would hit a solo homerun to left field.

Old Mill would tie the game up in the bottom of the fourth inning after an error and single started the inning. Eric Mondragon singled to right field with one-out that would score Hunter McKean and cut the lead to 3-2. Caleb Bailey would follow with a single of his own that knocked in one run and tie it up. Adams would follow and put a well hit ball to left field that Whitman centerfielder Carboni was able to track down and was able to get the ball out of his hand in stride and threw a runner out at the plate to get an inning-ending double play and keep the score tied.

It would remain that way through the rest of the game as both sides couldn't scratch the scoreboard until the bottom of the seventh.

After two quick outs, Nick Cinquanto was able to draw a walk to extend the inning. Cinquanto stole second the next hitter, and would advance to third on a wild pitch to get into scoring position through the at-bat. Christian Murphy would hit a slower ground ball that forced the Whitman infielder to make a quick play and his rushed throw short hopped the first baseman who couldn't handle the throw allowing Cinquanto to score and end the contest.

Shayne Smith led Old Mill going 2-for-3. Kevin Curran got the win throwing 2.2 innings of one-hit ball.

Tyler DeMartino led Whitman going 2-for-4.
