Maryland JUCO Conference Rundown: Week 2

WEEK 2 MARYLAND JUCO CONFERENCE RUNDOWN
Week 2 Highlights: Both Frederick CC and Chesapeake College opened up their 2020 campaigns with weekend sweeps. The Cougars opened on the road taking four from Surry CC (NC) outscoring them 31-14 while Chesapeake swept defending Region XIX and DII Northeast District Champion Lackawanna (PA) in two one-run extra inning ballgames at home. Prince George's also opened up their season on their beautiful new turf field taking two of three from Eastern Gateway CC (OH). The Owls swept Saturday's double-header before falling by one run in Sunday's get-away day game. Last but not least, Cecil College picked up two more wins on the season as they broke out the bats this weekend in South Carolina defeating Columbia International JV by a combined score of 29-4.
A look ahead to Week 3: Hagerstown CC, CCBC Essex, and Garrett College are set to open their seasons this week with Hagerstown hosting Shenandoah University JV in a double-header on Sunday while Essex travels to Caldwell Tech CC (NC) for a four game series featuring back-to-back double-headers on Friday and Saturday. Garrett heads to the Palmetto state for five games where they will be joined by Anne Arundel and CCBC Dundalk at Ripken. The College of Southern Maryland hosts Paul D. Camp CC (VA) for a mid-week double-header on Wednesday before opening their Maryland JUCO Conference schedule on the road at Prince George's CC on Sunday. Frederick CC will look to stay hot in a mid-week double-header against Piedmont College JV before traveling to Winter Haven, Florida on Friday where they will begin their spring trip on Saturday. CCBC Catonsville returns home in Week 3 hosting Sussex County CC (NY) for a three-game set starting Friday at 2:00 PM. Allegany College of Maryland travels to Virginia to take on Thomas Nelson CC for four games and Chesapeake, Harford CC, and Cecil all will be back in action Saturday and Sunday.
Local Action in Week 3: Aside from the mid-week action in Southern Maryland, there are some really intriguing double-headers and series' set for this weekend. The CCBC Catonsville - Sussex County CC (NY) series should be a really good one to follow as well as Harford's back-to-back double headers against Mercer County CC (NJ) on Saturday and Lackawanna College (PA) on Sunday. Prince George's CC hosts Brookdale CC (NJ) in a big DIII double-header starting at 12:00 PM on Saturday and Cecil will host Westchester CC (NY) for a four game set. Hagerstown hosts Shenandoah University JV as previously mentioned on Saturday, Chesapeake hosts Delaware County CC (PA) for a double-header on Saturday, and Mongtomery College rounds out this week's local action with a double-header set for Sunday against Delaware Tech CC.
