March is finally here and baseball tryouts have officially hit the ground running for Public Schools across the Old Line State. This year, we have decided to keep the same format as last year as we will keep two separate rankings throughout the Spring season. All Maryland Private schools will be considered in this year's weekly PBR Maryland Private Schools Top 10 rankings while only Public schools will be considered in our traditional PBR Maryland Public Schools Power 25. An update to these rankings will be released every Monday throughout the season.

Season Snapshot

The expectations are extremely high for Coach Mike Frownfelter and the Urbana Hawks in 2022. After a successful season just a year ago, going 13-3 and losing to the eventual 4A State Champion, Sherwood Warriors in the State Quarterfinals, the Hawks look to make a serious and deep run throughout the playoffs in 2022. The Hawks are deep in all three phases of the game, with a solid mix of Upperclassmen leadership and younger players hungry for an opportunity to contribute.

On the bump, the Hawks are led by three of the top arms in the state in Senior Brendan Yagesh (Mount St. Mary's), Junior Keegan Johnson (Ball State), and Sophomore standout Eli Derossi-Cytron. With three prototypical "aces" in the rotation, the Hawks pitching staff is as good as they come. Depth is also a key for Coach Frownfelter this year, as Gavin Allenach, Luke Boyd, and Nate Dacey all look to provide key innings throughout the season.

Offensively, the Hawks will be led by the likes of Yagesh and Johnson in the middle of the order, with a plethora of depth provided by Boyd, Logan Janney, Andrew Purcell, Riley Smith, and Layton Wenk. The mix of athleticism, speed, and power will be nothing short of impressive this season, as the Hawks have the depth needed throughout the lineup to make a serious run for their first State Title in school history.
