March is finally here and baseball tryouts have officially hit the ground running for Public Schools across the Old Line State. This year, we have decided to keep the same format as last year as we will keep two separate rankings throughout the Spring season. All Maryland Private schools will be considered in this year's weekly PBR Maryland Private Schools Top 10 rankings while only Public schools will be considered in our traditional PBR Maryland Public Schools Power 25. An update to these rankings will be released every Monday throughout the season.

Season Snapshot

The Cougars enter 2022 with one of the deepest rosters across the Old Line State on both sides of the ball. Coach Mike Franklin enters his 22nd season at the helm of the Catoctin Cougars and even with the key losses of graduating Seniors Bryson Caballero, Dustin Isanogle, Ayden Shadle, and JJ Zirkle, the confidence is high and the expectation for success this season is real.

On the bump, the Cougars will turn to Joey McMannis (Maryland) and Dalton Williams (High Point) to be a nice one-two punch for Coach Franklin in 2022. Both righties run it up to 90 mph with the fastball, and will provide plenty of key innings this season. Look for Senior Logan Simanski to provide a ton of key innings as well, with plenty of depth behind him in Junior Peyton Castellow, Logan Malachowski, Gavin Watkins, and Garrett Worth. Sophomore Ethan Georgoff and Freshman Jacob Bell will also compete for innings on the bump, giving Coach Franklin the depth needed to compete for a State Championship this season.

Offensively, the Cougars will turn to their four Senior leaders to set the table in Noland Kinna (College of Southern Maryland), Dylan Nicholson, Logan Simanski, and Dalton Williams (High Point). Look for Joey McMannis (Maryland) to continue his onslaught at the dish this season as well, providing Coach Franklin consistent thump in the middle of the lineup. Younger players will provide the depth needed and compete for starting jobs, which should bode well for the inner competitiveness all season long.
