Central Suburban North

Glenbrook North (23-10; 11-5) wrapped up the CSL-North with an 8-0 victory over Deerfield. Bradley University-bound RHP Peter Resnick (8-2) struck out 10 Warriors in his three-hit shutout. Spartan Dave Nyren had two hits and drove in five runs for the CSL-North champs.

Glenbrook North will travel to No. 7 Maine South for the CSL Championship game today at 4:30.

No. 7 Maine South (26-4; 15-1) wrapped up a tremendous 15-1 run through the CSL South with an 8-4 win over Niles West.

DuPage Valley

Wheaton North (24-10; 17-4) swept away Wheaton Warrenville South 13-3 to win the Falcons’ second consecutive DVC title for head coach Dan Schoessling. It was the fourth DVC crown for North in the last five years, under the tutelage of Schoessling.

East Suburban Catholic

No. 2 Joliet Catholic Academy (26-6-1; 14-2) wrapped up another ESCC championship for head coach Jared Voss with a 15-1 demolition of No. 22 Nazareth (22-7; 7-6). Hilltopper junior SS Chris Tschida drove home six for the ESCC champs with a perfect 2-for-2 day.

Metro Suburban

Glenbard South (23-10; 15-2) wrapped up the MSC title for Raider head coach Mike Riley with an 8-5 win over Illiana Christian (22-9; 13-4). EIU-Bound Mitch Gasbarro tripled and went deep for the MSC champions.

Mid-Illlini

Morton (28-7; 12-2) and Bartonville Limestone (23-7; 12-2) shared the M-I title with victories on Wednesday.

Morton defeated East Peoria 8-2 behind a 17-strikeout performance from Illinois State-bound RHP Will Headen (8-2).  Limestone blanked Metamora 7-0 behind a shutout from Rocket junior Zach Jewell (6-2).

The two clubs are seeded No. 1 & No. 2 in next week’s Class 3A Washington Regional. If they both win they would meet in the de-facto M-I championship game and for the regional title next Saturday.

Southwest Prairie

No. 8 Plainfield North (29-3; 18-2) romped past Romeoville 9-0 behind a two-hit shutout from juinior Brendan Miller (9-0). Miller fanned nine Spartan hitters and Tiger junior Kurt Palandech had two hits and two RBI for the SWPC champions.

Plainfield East (16-17; 9-11) defeated rival Plainfield South 3-0 behind a no-hitter from Bengal Mark Kramer. Plainfield South falls to (20-12; 12-8).

Upstate 8 River

St. Charles East (20-10; 18-6) slipped past St. Charles North 3-2 on Wednesday. (See Drake Skleba’s story).

Geneva (24-7; 17-7) blasted Streamwood again, 13-0, in five innings to stay in the River race.

Seneca Regional

Aurora Christian (25-8) spotted Plano a 2-0 first inning lead and then rolled past the Reapers 6-2 to advance to Seneca Regional Championship Game Saturday at 11 am. Aurora Christian will meet the winner of Thursday’s regional semifinal between Coal City (23-11) and Aurora Central Catholic (13-17).

NIU-bound Bobby Kuntzendorff (10-0) fired a five-hitter with 12 strikeouts to lead the Eagles. The future Huskie lefty helped himself at the plate with two hits and two RBI. Plano bows out at 14-23.

Momence Regional

Herscher (29-7) defeated Bishop McNamara 6-3 on Wednesday. Junior Evan Regez had two hits and an RBI for Herscher. Derek Sproul chipped in with a big two-run double for the I-8 South champions.  The Tigers will meet the winner of today’s semifinal between Manteno (26-7) and Beecher (19-8) at 10 on Saturday for the regional championship. 

Chicago Christian Regional

Chicago Christian (24-12) scored four first-quarter touchdowns and trounced Chicago Lindblom 27-0. Actually, the Knights scored 27 runs in their 27-0 semifinal victory over their guests from Chicago. CC will face the winner of today’s semifinal between Chicago (Team Englewood) and Chicago (Team Charter) at 11 on Saturday for the regional championship.

Wilmington Regional

Reed-Custer (11-26) slipped past Chicago Agricultural Science 5-3 on Wednesday. The Comets will meet the winner of today’s Wilmington-Chicago Corliss game at 11 for the regional championship on Saturday.

Immaculate Conception Regional

Lisle (31-5) defeated Westmont 5-1 behind an 11-strikeout complete-game effort from Lion RHP Jared Jayne (9-0).

Mount Zion Regional

Mount Zion (28-3) opened up regional play with a 15-0 destruction of Macon-Meridian in five innings on Wednesday.

Decatur St. Teresa (25-4) escaped Sullivan 7-6 to set up a regional championship encounter on Saturday with the hosts from Mount Zion (28-3).

Teutopolis Regional

Two-time defending Class 2A state champion, No. 16 Teutopolis (28-6), got out of Dodge (T-Town) alive on Wednesday, outslugging Newton 8-7.

Murphysboro Regional

Anna-Jonesboro (24-9) slipped past Carterville 5-4.

DuQuoin Regional

No. 17 Benton (30-6) hammered Chester 12-5 behind three-RBI days from Rangers Cody Smith and Bradley University-bound Ty Leffler. Leffler now has plated 53 for the Rangers in 2012. Leffler (8-2) picked up the win on the mound for the SIRR-Ohio champions. Chester bows out at 21-8.  

Harrisburg Regional

No. 19 Harrisburg (27-8-1) defeated Carmi 5-1 behind a three-hitter from junior Illinois-recruit RHP Ryne Roper. Roper (7-4) fired a three-hitter with 11 strikeouts for the Bulldogs.

Athens Regional

Williamsville (28-5) routed Beardstown 9-0 behind a five-hitter from Bullet Skylar Arnberger (6-0). Arnberger struck out 11 Tiger hitters. J.P. Meyer led the Sangamo Conference champions with a pair of triples and drove had four RBI. 

Prairie Central Regional

Normal U-High (23-10) defeated Pontiac 6-1 behind Heartland Community College-bound Jake Hendren who fired a two-hitter, with eight strikeouts against the Indians.

Richmond-Burton Regional

Richmond Burton (24-7) battled past Wheaton Academy 7-5 on Wednesday.

Rock Falls Regional

Rock Falls (24-12) blew out Princeton 13-3 in six innings.

Class 1A Dwight Regional

Dwight (16-15) hammered Donovan 12-2 in five innings. Trojan Ben Trainor (6-1) fired a three-hitter, with eight strikeouts at Donovan.

Nonconference

No. 1 Providence (25-6) crushed Southwest Suburban Blue Division tri-leader Joliet West 10-0, as University of Arizona-bound Ryan Koziol was a triple shy of hitting for the cycle. Koziol homered and drove home four Celtic runs. University of Notre Dame-bound LHP Zak Kutsulis (6-2) fired a one-hitter with five strikeouts. Joliet West falls to 18-13.

No. 4 Lincoln-Way North (28-5) beat rival Lincoln-Way Central 4-3 in a Southwest Suburban crossover game on Wednesday night. Alex Neufeld led the Phoenix with a pair of hits and two RBI.

No. 13 Oak Forest (25-5) fell victim to a two-run game-winning bomb from Viking senior Steve Roman as Homewood-Flossmoor stunned the Bengals 8-6. Viking Heartland Community College-bound LHP Danny Lietz (7-4) struck out 15 Bengals to win for the seventh time for H-F.

Sandburg (23-6) defeated Shepard 12-2 in five innings on Wednesday. Eagle senior Mike Imrie and junior Austin Cangelosi led the Eagle attack with a pair of RBI each. Shepard falls to 17-14.

Andrew (22-9) blanked Downers Grove South 4-0 behind a two-hitter from senior Marcus Radz (4-3). Radz fanned eight Mustang hitters. Radz’s battery-mate junior C Ryan Supple had two hits and an RBI for the T-Bolts.

Brother Rice (20-13) defeated Lockport 2-1 for Crusader first-year coach Johnny McCarthy’s 20th win. RHP Garrett O’Neil (5-4) fired a six-hitter at the Porters at Ed Flink Field in Lockport. Crusader sophomore Kevin Biondic won it with an RBI single in the top of the seventh.

Red-hot Porter junior C Derek Bangert went deep for the lone Lockport (20-12) run.

Burlington Central (23-8) rallied past DeKalb 3-2 on Wednesday at Rocket Hill in Burlington. Trailing 2-1 in the bottom of the sixth, senior Cody Wallace ripped a double to tie the game at 2-2. Senior Clem Acitelli plated Wallace with a clutch RBI single which scored the eventual game-winner. Rocket senior C Tanner Scott hit his 12th bomb of the season.  Rocket senior Riley Jensen (8-2) fired a two-hitter with 12 strikeouts for the BN-East co-champions.

Lincoln-Way East (18-11) ripped off the Griffins seventh straight win in dramatic fashion on Wednesday. Trailing the defending Class 4A champions from Lyons Township 6-4 in the bottom of the sixth, the Griffins exploded with a three-run sixth to stun LT 7-6 in Frankfort. The Griffins were led by Brandon Nathan, who’s two-run single tied the game at 6-6 and Kevin Slawkowski, won it with an RBI single.

Yorkville (20-11) defeated Metea Valley 7-1 behind senior CF Nick Gillette. Gillette singled and homered and drove home a pair of Fox runs on Wednesday.
