PBR: Why did you choose Creighton?

I chose Creighton first based on the academic viewpoint. Many students would love to get a degree from Creighton University not even mentioning getting the opportunity to play baseball. The opportunities their baseball program possesses are countless. Their facilities are some of the best in the country. I really think my style of play molds very well to how they like to play. I see defense being one of my stronger attributes, so being able to learn from Coach Servais is something I'm looking forward to.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

UNO, Nebraska, Oral Roberts, Central Arkansas

PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you? How did your relationship develop with them?

The Creighton staff first saw me when I attended one of their camps last winter. Coach Servais then came to watch me play this summer when I was playing with my Legion Team in the Coach K invitational. After that I was able to go on a visit and meet all of the staff at Creighton University. They showed me around the campus, weight room, field, etc. for several hours. My family and I got along with Coach Gandossy very well during the visit. The entire staff seemed very knowledgeable and welcoming which was awesome.
PBR: Was there one deciding factor that put your choice over the top?

The deciding factor was just all of the opportunities they offer on and off the field like I mentioned before. If I go into their program motivated and work hard during my time there, there's no doubt in my mind that I will walk away a better baseball player and most importantly a better man.

PBR: Who has helped you the most to get to where you are today?

My family has played a huge role in where I am today. My dad has invested countless of hours in throwing BP and helping me develop my game. My mom has supported me at every game no matter the weather or distance away from home. Both of my brothers have supported my baseball career to the fullest, and are always there for me when I need it. I have been extremely lucky to have had Coach Vernon as my coach every year at Lincoln Southwest. He has been a great role model and has built a program that has allowed me to be as successful as I am today.

PBR: You played for the Nebraska Sluggers and Legion baseball this past summer, how was balancing a schedule like that?

When looking back at it, I am very happy that I chose to do both. At times my schedule would seem pretty crazy, having up to 10 games a week and also adding basketball workouts and basketball games Monday nights. It definitely kept me busy, but it also turned me into a better baseball player. Getting the amount of in game reps and at bats that I did really helped me, especially by being able to feel comfortable in the batters box and at short stop at all times.

PBR: What is your most memorable baseball moment to date?

My most memorable baseball moment would have to have been playing in the DeMarini World Series my 14U year of select baseball with Tagge Rutherford. We ended up making a run against some of the best teams in the country. We played in the championship against the Carolina Black Sox. It was streamed on MLB.com which was really cool when we knew everyone back home was watching and cheering for us. Even though the game didn't end the way we wanted, it was the most meaningful and intense game that I have ever played in.

PBR: Who is the best player you have competed against?

I have competed against many great players over the past several years, but in my opinion Logan Van Treeck has always stood out. He's a great lefty pitcher who fills up the strike zone and competes every pitch. As an aggressive base runner, it's hard to swipe bags on him. I have been lucky enough to not only compete in the batters box against him, but also to work behind him at short stop this past summer. He makes my job at short stop pretty easy. I have rarely seen the kid loose a game.
