No. 16 Howard looked to extend their 3-game winning streak Wednesday afternoon as they hosted the defending Howard County Champion Marriotts Ridge Mustangs. Lions starter Gabe Delgado (UMBC) began the game strong punching out two in the first before helping his own cause with a two-run opposite field homerun in the bottom of the second.

Marriotts Ridge answered right back however in the top of the third scoring two runs of their own on a walk, a hit, an error, and a fielders choice. In the bottom half, Howard exploded for five runs to retake a lead they wouldn't relinquish. Jerras Murray and Aidan O’Connor led the Lions charge with RBI singles.

The Mustangs mounted a comeback in the sixth inning highlighted by a pinch-hit single by Aleskie Guzman that scored three runs. Guzman later scored on a sac-fly to make it 8-6. Howard got an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth and held on to win 9-6  after Marriotts Ridge failed to score in the seventh after loading the bases.

Brian Jakubek (2-for-3, 2 R’s), Murray (2-for-3, 2 RBI’s, 2 R’s), Delgado (1-for-3 , HR, 3 RBI’s, 1 R), O’Connor (1-for-3, 2 RBI’s), and Alex Campbell (2-for-2 2 BB’s) all had big days at the plate for the Lions who knocked out Mustangs starter Josh Olsufka (Salisbury) after just two and two-thirds innings. Delgado went four innings earning the win on the mound striking out three along the way.
