No. 2 Lee's Summit West gets by No. 16 Raymore Peculiar



No. 2 Lee’s Summit West and No. 16 Raymore-Peculiar met up in crucial meeting for both teams, with Lee’s Summit looking to maintain their wining ways, and Ray-Pec looking to get back on track after a couple of losses. The clutch hitting of Lee’s Summit West came through, defeating Ray-Pec 5 to 4.

Lee’s Summit would strike in the first inning. Lee’s Summit West would load the bases with SS Travis Stroup leading the inning off with a walk, C Matt Fultz reaching base on an error and clean up hitter Matt Hall also drawing a walk. RF Ryan Dowling would drive in Struop with a sacrifice fly to left field, putting Lee’s Summit West up 1-0. The Titans of Lee’s Summit West would tack on three more runs in the bottom of the third. Fultz would lead off with a walk, and pinch runner Nathan Fry would steal second and advance to third on a single by Hall. RF Dowling would follow with a single to left, scoring Fry and advancing Hall to second. The next batter, 2B John Fairchild singled, loading the bases, leading to Blake Broshear’s sacrifice fly scoring Hall and advancing Dowling to third. Fairchild would steal second, bringing up LF Boston Woodsworth, who would hit a sacrifice fly scoring Dowling and putting Lee’s Summit West up 4-0.

Ray-Pec would fight back, scoring three in the top of the fourth. After 1B Jacob Boylan walked and C Garrett Mckenzie would reach bases via walk and hit by pitch, 3B Cort Lesmeiater would hit a one out single loading the bases. Consecutive RBI singles by RF Austin Cochran and Mason scored Boylan and pinch runner Hunter Phillips. LF Cole Frankes would follow with a sacrifice fly, scoring Lesmeinster can cutting the lead to 4-3.

Ray-Pec would have another run cross the plate in the top of the fourth. Boylan doubled to right and would be driven in by Mckenzie, knotting the score at 4-4.

Not to be outdone, Lee’s Summit West would stikr again in the fifth. Broshears started thing soff with a double to deep left center and advance to third on a bunt single by LF Boston Woodworth. No. 9 batter Orencio Fisher hit a hard line drive to left field, which Ray-Pec’s Cole Frakes would make a diving catch on, allowing Broshers to score the go ahead run.

Matt Hall came in to close the game in the top of the seventh, showing a hard 87-89 mph fastball and hard breaking ball.

Starting pitcher Alex Lange, the No. 1 ranked player in the Class of 2014 showed just why he is ranked No. 1, with 88-90 mph fastballs, topping at 91 mph and overpowering the Ray-Pec lineup through three innings.
