Sterling Heights Stevenson 10, Hudsonville 2

Two of the best teams in the state of Michigan squared off on Friday evening in a Cancer Awareness game in Hudsonville, MI.  The Stevenson Titans and Hudsonville Eagles sported pink jerseys in support of a sister-in-law of a Stevenson baseball coach who lives in Hudsonville and is battling breast cancer.

Both of these programs are no strangers to winning.  Hudsonville is the defending Division I State Champions and Stevenson has been one of the most successful programs in the state over the past decade, picking up a state championship of their own in 2005.

Despite the hype, this cross-state matchup had a lopsided result on a cold rainy day in West Michigan.  Stevenson scored a run in the first, and batted through the order in the second in route to an eight run inning.  The deep Titans order peppered line drives all over the field and put a lot of pressure on the Eagles.

Bobby Griffin, Zach Maguire, Zach Melcher, Greg McDade, and Riley McCauley all registered hits in the big second inning for the Titans, who were aided by several walks by the Eagle pitching staff.  The Eagles were able plate a run in the bottom half of the second, and the teams traded two runs late, with the game finishing in the Titans favor by a score of 10-2.

Senior Johno Rodriguez was impressive on the mound and earned the win for Stevenson. Rodgriguez worked six innings on the day and only allowed one hit. Leading the offensive attack for Hudsonville was junio Logan Magsig, who registered an RBI single.
