CHICAGO, IL – The top of the Mount Carmel lineup was the story in the Caravan 10-4 win over St. Rita on Wednesday afternoon. Alek Thomas, Bobby Seymour and Macauley Kilbane, three of the top four hitters in the Mount Carmel lineup, combined to go 10-for-13 with two homeruns, six RBI, seven runs and two walks in the contest.

Mount Carmel (21-3) pounded out 12 hits on the day and put up crooked numbers in the four innings in which they scored. Seymour, a Wake Forest commit, who ended the day 4-for-5, belted a two-run homerun in the first inning to get things going for the Caravan and they never looked back. Mount Carmel added three runs in the second and three in the fourth to open up an 8-2 lead on St. Rita (18-6).

Thomas, a TCU commit, put a cap on the afternoon with a solo homerun to right field to lead off the top of the seventh inning. The homerun gave Mount Carmel a 9-3 lead at the time and they would go on to add one more run before the inning was through.

St. Rita actually out hit Mount Carmel on the day 13-12. The Mustangs seemed to have runners in scoring position every inning but could not get the big hit needed. The Mustangs scored two runs in the second, one in the fifth and one in the seventh inning. Trailing 10-4 in the seventh, St. Rita was threatening once again with the bases loaded and two out. Danny Trudeau, the Mount Carmel reliever, was able to strike out the final batter out looking on a curveball.

Christian Lucio started and got the win on the mound for Mount Carmel. The junior right-hander went 6.1 innings, scattered 12 hits, gave up four runs, two earned, struck out two and walked three.
