No. 8 Columbus North Advances to Sectional Title Game

Columbus North 2, Bloomington North 0

After quick work in the first by both teams, Columbus North was able to strike for two runs in the second. Will Dorenbusch led off with a single past the shortstop and Cooper Trinkle followed with a double to left. A wild pitch brought Dorenbusch around to score and advanced Trinkle to third. Devin Mann then ripped a liner over third base bringing home the games second and final run.

Just the two runs were needed as Cody Burton stayed strong to finish his complete game in style. Giving up just two hits and striking out 10, Burton stayed in the strike zone for most the night. A fastball that sat 84-86 touching 88 at times was more than enough, but mixing in an impressive breaking ball made it difficult as the night wore on. Burton struck out every Cougar hitter at least once on the evening.

Dylan Stutsman was equally impressive for Bloomington North, but was unable to will his offense forward. Stutsman struck out 9 giving up seven hits and two runs, only one of which was earned.

Columbus North moves forward with a chance for a sectional title as they will face Bloomington South tonight at East Central. In what might be a contest between pitchers who can touch 90, Columbus North will likely send Collin Lollar to the hill. Bloomington South remains a mystery as Gage Rogers has seen action in both games the Panthers have played so far.
