We take a look at five players from the North Stafford Wolverines baseball program. Video and notes were compiled at the North Stafford High School Scout Day and we took notice of some things you can expect from North Stafford come spring.

Casey Fletcher LHP / OF / North Stafford, VA / 2024

Fletcher had a fastball that sat in the low-mid 70's, threw three offspeed pitches, and changed slots on multiple pitches, including the fastball. The changeup slot tends to stay from the lower slot, but can really run it away from right handers and causes fits for hitters. The usual fastball comes from a higher, over the top slot, and will drop it on occasion. The breaking balls tends to be a bigger 12/6 curveball from the OTT slot and the 2/8 slurve comes from the lower slot. Fletcher projects to be a short relief, bridge, change of pace guy. While the velo is not overpowering, a softer lefty with feel for four pitches, and has a really solid changeup, can get you a few outs multiple times per week. Fletcher can win a lot of games in high school, but would probably be more of a short role guy at the next level.

Chase Krause OF / North Stafford, VA / 2024

Strong, mature frame. Corner outfield profile with some raw power at the plate. During BP there were some balls that jumped off the bat, especially to the pull side gap. It is raw brute strength and there is still polish left to add to the offense, but the physicality is there. Swing was a bit top hand heavy and the barrel got out of the zone a little quick, but when we have seen him prior, the Bluefield commit did a nice job using the middle and backside with the barrel staying in the zone a bit longer. The arm strength is average to slightly above average.

Lucas Schroeder C / RHP / North Stafford, VA / 2024

Schroeder did a little bit of everything on this day. Behind the plate, the senior was the best catcher for the Wolverines. Fairly clean exchange, average arm strength, and showed some accuracy around the bag. Thinner, lanky frame with plenty of room to add strength that could impact him on the mound, as well as at the plate. Had a double in the first inning that he got on plane with and drove to left center field. More contact driven right now because of the lack of strength and mass, but has doubles power to both gaps. Where his best chance may lie down the road is on the mound. While it is not overpowering velo, the breaking ball absolutely plays. 2600+ RPM with depth and feel for the zone. While there is plenty of polish left to add, Schroeder's ability to spin it from a low three-quarter slot could leave some coaches intrigued about the potential upside.

Michael Swartzbaugh RHP / 1B / North Stafford , VA / 2024

Simple operation, foot gets down on time, and showed some easy power to middle and pull side. Had the highest exit velo on the day (93 mph) and the furthest hit ball during BP (351 ft at 91 mph). Late short separation and solid bat speed with strength through contact.

Graham Ward 3B / RHP / North Stafford, VA / 2025

Ward has probably the strongest set of tools that we saw on the day. His ability to impact the baseball was impressive at times. BP was taken off of a machine, and sometimes the machine can expose hitters that have some timing issues, or inconsistencies in their swings. Ward showed solid barrel control and a fairly accurate barrel. Ball jumped off the bat from the pull side gap to the line. Defensively it is a corner infielder profile. Aggressive reads and moved through the catch while showing ability to throw on the run. Ward started on the mound during the game play. Low 80's arm that was heavy out of the hand and had consistent cut on the fastball. Offense first, but should be a solid arm for the Wolverines in the spring.
