Northern Nevada Pre Season ID - Catcher Analysis

Buddy Gouldsmith
Nevada Scouting Director

Always a position in heavy demand, the Northern Nevada Pre Season ID hosted just one backstop.  Below is a look at the one catching prospect.

2019, Anthony Lynch, C (Bishop Manogue), Sturdy, 6-foot-2, 195, Lynch is a strong bodied receiver with the durability and instincts for the position. He is still looking for an opportunity to play.  He posted pop times ranging 1.93 to 2.07 with a top velocity from the crouch at 78.  Lynch did a nice job during the bullpen sessions conveying a capable receiver of a variety of arms with variable stuff and command. He consistently displayed his ability to block and recover.  Lynch has never received any considerable training at the position and with work could develop into a solid catch and throw type with his strong desire. In the box, he stands strong with a minimal stride, loading to a below shoulder launch position and getting deep into his legs.  He relies on strength over bat speed with a slightly uphill swing in a pull-oriented approach. He made consistent quality contact.  Given his size and strength, Lynch could very well show power down the road.
