OK Preseason Preview: Collinsville

Oklahoma Staff

The Oklahoma high school baseball season kicks off on Feb. 21 for A-B, and March 1 for 2A-6A. Over the next several weeks, leading up to opening day, we’ll be publishing our team previews ahead of the 2022 spring season, touching on programs spanning all state classifications, leading into a countdown through the official PBR Oklahoma Preseason Power 25 Rankings.

We’ve submitted a Preseason Questionnaire to high school head coaches across the entire state. Their responses have been flooding in and we’re using the detailed insight they’ve provided in our team-by-team preseason analysis.

Our 2022 preseason coverage continues today.

Team: Collinsville
2021 Record: 25-11
Classification: 5A
Head Coach: Tony Reeder
Years at the Helm: 25

OUTLOOK

Coach Reeder has been a staple for Collinsville baseball for a quarter century and always seems to have his team playing at a high level.  Last year's squad showed well with a 25-11 record and fell short in the opening round of the State Tournament on a ball that hit the chalk on the left field line in the bottom of the 7th to the eventual State Champion.  Collinsville will have a few holes to feel especially replacing the production out of the middle of the order from Hayden Barnes and Conner Duncan.  The good news for Collinsville heading into the Spring is their ability to rely on multiple guys both in the lineup and on the mound that have had success at the Varsity level in the past.  They return 4 out of their top 5 arms off of last year's squad and 4-5 guys that spent a good amount of time in the lineup last season.  Getting some production out of their returners early and getting some of their younger guys on the roster to fill in quickly will be key for them especially early on in the season.  Collinsville has put themselves on the map in the 5A landscape for a long time and has a history of competing for titles year in and year out and 2022 looks to be headed in that direction.

Impact PLAYERS

Braden Keith, 2022, 3B/RHP

Keith returns to the lineup for his senior year after playing a big part in the offense as well as handling the hot corner and picking up big innings on the mound.  Keith finished the 2021 campaign hitting at a .369 clip and driving in 27 runs from the middle of the order.  Keith also was used as a district starter on the mound and will be counted on again to provide big innings throughout the Spring.  Look for Keith to make a bigger impact in 2022 on both sides of the ball and be relied on to continue to be a big run producing force as well as taking the ball on the mound in some of the tougher games throughout the year.

Braden Keith (5/30/20)

Cage Edgmon, 2022, OF/INF

Returning to the lineup out of the leadoff spot, Edgmon had a huge year in his junior season in 2021 with a .452 average and creating havoc against defenses with his high on base skills.  The left-handed hitter has shown the ability to be a tough out and has the projectable build to add more physicality to his game in 2021.  Collinsville will continue to rely on Cage's ability to handle the bat at the top of the order and be a steady presence in the lineup all season long.

Cage Edgmon (6/4/20)

Johnathon Masingale, 2022, INF

The senior infielder returns to the lineup for Collinsville in 2021 after a big year last season that saw him drive in 29 runs at a .429 average.  Look for Masingale to move up more to the top of the order in 2022 where there will be even more opportunities for him to drive in runs.  Masingale has a loose and whippy swing from the left side and has the potential for more power as he continues to add strength and his strong bat speed.
