Ocean Lakes traveled to Kempsville to take on the Chiefs on Friday afternoon and took advantage of a six run sixth inning to pull away for a 7-3 victory.

It was a pitcher’s duel after five innings with both starters, Danny Connolly for Ocean Lakes and Michell Huffman for Kempsville. Heading into the sixth inning it was a 1-1 ballgame. In the top of the sixth, Ocean Lakes would get a leadoff walk followed by three singles in a row from Carson DeMartini, Scott Hinds and Elias Negron. Negron’s single drove in two runs and Connolly would help his own cause with a double to right, scoring Hinds and putting runners at second and third. After strikeout, an infield single would score Negron. Ocean Lakes would get their final two runs of the inning after an RBI single from Nick Vogel to give the Dolphins a 7-1 advantage. 

Kempsville would add two runs in the bottom half of the inning from the bat of Cooper Willey with an RBI single up the middle, making it a 7-3 ballgame.

The Chiefs would load the bases in the seventh inning but were unable to get any across to end the game.

Hinds led Ocean Lakes with two hits, Negron and Connelley each had two-RBI apiece.

Norman Holcomb led Kempsville going 2-for-3 at the plate.

The Beach area nightcap saw a battle of two top teams this spring, the hickory Hawks hosting the Great Bridge Wildcats.

Great Bridge would strike in the first inning, taking advantage of a Hickory effort as Carson Black would score on a Jacob Caton sacrifice fly to make the score 1-0 in the top of the second. Great Bridge would add three runs in the third off a three-run home run from Caleb Elder to take a 4-0 lead. The Wildcats would add an unearned run in the fourth to get to a 5-0 lead.

Hickory would a run in the fourth and not threaten again until the seventh, scoring a run and leaving the bases loaded to end the game with a final of 5-2.

Landon Higgerson got the win on the mound for Great Bridge going six strong. Elder led the Wildcats woing 2-for-3 with three RBI. Bre Harden was 2-for-4.

Chance Zerhouni led Hickory with two hits and an RBI. Jacob Mustain had the other RBI for the Hawks.
