Complete Team Green Analysis

Alex Harter, RHP/3B, Liberty Benton HS, 2015

6-foot-3, 178 pounds with a tall lanky frame.  Projects better as a pitcher at the next level.  Ran a 5.01 home to first time.  In the field, he showed average hands and footwork.  Featured a quick exchange, and showed good carry on deeper throws from third.  Topped out at 81 mph across the infield.  At the plate, he starts with an open stance, and uses a short stride.  Showed good balance throughout swing.  Good weight transfer through contact.  Needs to keep hands inside the ball as bat tended to drag at times.  Registered a top exit velocity of 80 mph.  Good pitchers frame.  Throws from a 3/4 slot with long loose arm action.  Easy effort.  Showed good command of his fastball sitting at 79-82 mph.  Used 66-68 mph curveball with gradual sweeping action.  Also threw a 74 mph changeup that showed slight fading action.  Guy to keep an eye on as the school season approaches.

Ashton Salyers, MIF, Pickerington Central HS, 2016

5-foot-10, 146 pounds with an athletic frame.  Projects better as a second baseman.  Throws from a high ¾ arm slot with short arm action.  Shows average hands with a clean exchange in the field.  Needs to attack, and play through the ball.  Topped out at 70 mph across the infield.  At the plate, he uses a compact swing that projects a high contact rate. Minimal load.  Level swing. Lindrive type.  Power potential is still a work in progress, and will depend on how he progresses physically.  Off the tee he registered a top exit velocity of 72 mph.

Clay Pittman, C, Tinora HS, 2014

6-foot-0, 190 pounds with a strong athletic frame.  Ran a 4.79 home to first time.  Features good hands with a quick transfer.  Also shows good receiving/blocking skills.  Recorded pop times between 1.97-2.09.  At third base, he registered a top arm speed of 79 mph.  At the plate, he starts in a wide crouched stance.  Short up and down stride.  Strong level swing that can hit the gaps at times.  Senior that keeps showing signs of improvement.  Registered a top exit velocity of 89 mph off the tee.

Cody Lyons, 2B/RHP, Bellefontaine HS, 2014

5-foot-9, 150 pounds with an average athletic frame.  Two-way prospect.  In the field, he shows the ability to use different arm angles with short arm action.  Tends to field the ball on his heels.  Reached a top arm speed of 71 mph across the infield.  At the plate, he uses a short compact swing with linedrive production.  Starts in a tall bent stance with good balance.  Quick hands.  Features a level swing path with good extension.   Reached a top exit velocity of 81 mph off the tee.  On the mound, he threw from a ¾ arm slot.  Smooth rhythm.  Fastball sat 78-81 mph with easy effort.  Used a 65-68 mph, 11/5 tilt curveball that showed some sharpness, and good depth.  Also, occasionally mixed in a 75 mph changeup thrown with fastball arm speed.

Dante D’andrea, RHP, Westerville North HS, 2015

6-foot-0, 200 pounds with a big strong frame.  On the mound, he threw from a high 3/4 arm slot with short arm action.  Average arm speed with some effort in delivery.  Mixes pitches well, and is not afraid to go offspeed in fastball counts.  He used a straight 78-81 mph fastball.  Showed good feel with fastball filling up the zone.  His out pitch was his 65-67 mph curveball with 12/6 tilt.  Also used a 69-70 mph changeup thrown at near fastball arm speed.

David Van Hove, C, Ashland HS, 2015

6-foot-0, 175 pounds with an average athletic frame.  Ran a home to first time of 4.9 seconds.  Behind the plate, he features quick hands with a clean transfer.  Registered pop times between 2.02-2.10.  Showed accuracy in his throws while recording a top arm speed of 72 mph.  At the plate, he starts with a straight on stance and uses a short stride.  Takes an aggressive hack with uphill bat path.  Tends to be a bit stiff with his hands.  Opposite field production with potential to hit the gaps.  Registered a top exit velocity of 77 mph. 

Doug Connor, 1B/RHP, Watkins Memorial HS, 2015

5-foot-10, 200 pounds with a big athletic frame.  Potential two-way prospect.  Registered a 5.41 home to first time.  In the field he shows good actions at first base.  Quick off the base and shows good footwork when turning two.  Registered a top arm velocity of 79 mph across the infield.  At the plate, he uses a straight on stance with early load.  Good balance throughout swing.  Shows pull power now, but has potential to be a gap to gap guy with his strong level swing.  Impressive exit velocity of 89 mph off the tee.  On the mound, he throws from a high 3/4 slot with short arm action.  Smooth tempo.  Used an 81-82 mph fastball that showed arm-side run.  Displayed good command of his fastball constantly keeping the ball down in the zone.  His 69-70 mph curveball featured 11/5 tilt with average depth.  Also used a 72-73 mph fastball with near fastball arm speed.

Eric Callahan, 2B, Bexley HS, 2016

5-foot-6, 120 pounds with a slim athletic frame.  Throws from a high ¾ arm slot with short arm action.  In the field, he features softness in hands, and an accurate arm.  Footwork shows some improvement.  Registered a top arm velocity of 67 mph across the infield.  At the plate, he starts with a wide stance and balanced base.  A clean, smooth right handed swing.  Smooth load, short stride, and quick bat.  Will only get better as he physically matures.  Top exit velocity of 69 mph off the tee.

John Hatgas, MIF, Dublin Coffman HS, 2015

5-foot-8, 160 pounds with a strong athletic frame.  In the field, he shows average range, and a clean exchange.  Accurate with his throws.  Topped out at 71 mph across the diamond.  Better suited as a second baseman at the next level.  His best tool is his left handed bat.  Starts with a wide straight on stance.  Features a compact swing with good overall bat speed.  Projects a high contact rate.  Can drive the ball to all parts of the field.  Shows flashes of potential power, but just not consistent right now.

Matt Bogan, RHP, Mechanicsburg HS, 2014

6-foot-1, 186 pound right handed pitcher with an average frame.  Throws from a 3/4 arm slot with short arm action.  Smooth tempo.  Fills up the zone with his 75-77 mph fastball.  Offered a 10/4, 66-69 mph curvball ball with sharp late break.  Also used a 69 mph changeup that was a bit erratic.  Changeup was thrown at fastball arm speed, and showed some fading action. 

Nate Rau, SS, Bryan HS, 2015

5-foot-9, 150 pounds with a thin athletic frame.  Registered a home to first time of 4.64 seconds.  Throws from a 3/4 to low 3/4 slot with short arm action.  In the field, he offers some softness with hands.  Throws across the diamond were inaccurate at times.  Topped out at 76 mph across the infield.  At the plate, he starts with a slightly open balanced stance.  Features a short stride with level swing.  Will give you line drive production to all fields.  Also, shows some good actions on the basepaths.  Reached a top exit velocity of 77 mph off the tee.

Nicholas Jeffers, SS/RHP, River Valley HS, 2014

5-foot-10, 185 pounds with a strong frame.  Ran a 4.78 home to first time.  In the field, he shows off his athleticism getting in good fielding position.  Average hands with a clean exchange.  Accurate with throws at 75 mph across the diamond.  At the plate, he uses a straight on stance with slight leg kick.  Displays a strong swing that creates some pull power.  No back foot turn, which cuts off his swing substantially. Registered a top exit velocity of 76 mph off the tee.  On the mound, he throws from a 3/4 arm slot with short arm action.  Slow tempo.  He used a 76-78 mph fastball that showed occasional cutting action.  Struggled keeping and finding the same arm slot.  His secondary pitch was a 63-65 mph slider that he threw at near fastball arm speed.

Patrick Birrer, OF, Moeller HS, 2014

6-foot-1, 185 pounds with a strong athletic frame.  Registered a 4.32 home to first time.  Throws from an over the top slot with long arm action.  Plays well through the ball allowing him to get good pace on his throws.  Top arm speed of 76 mph from the outfield.  Featuring a smooth left handed stroke, Birrer incorporates his lower half creating a powerful swing.  Starts with an open stance, and uses a slightly long stride.  Has a tendency to dive towards the plate.  Gap-to-gap type hitter.  Registered a top exit velocity of 88 mph off the tee. 

Robert Engle, SS/RHP, Newark Catholic HS, 2015

5-foot-9, 165 pounds with average frame. Potential two way guy at the next level.  In the field, he projects better as a third baseman.  Ran a home to first time of 5.07.  Throws from a high 3/4 slot with short arm action.  Accurate with his throws.  Tendency to field the ball flat footed.  Top arm speed of 77 mph across the infield.  At the plate, he starts with a straight on balanced stance.   Solid weight transfer through contact, with adequate use of lower half.  Occasionally wraps bat too far behind head.  Good extension through contact.  Reached a top exit velocity of 82 mph.  On the mound, he throws from a 3/4 slot with long, and somewhat stiff arm action. Smooth rhythm.  Fastball shows occasional arm-side run sitting 78-80 mph.  His 65-67 mph breaking ball shows 10/4 action with gradual movement. 

Sam Montgomery, OF, Bishop Harley HS, 2014

5-foot-10, 150 pounds with great athleticism.  Ran a 4.84 home to first time.  Shows very good actions on the base paths.  Throws from high 3/4 slot with short arm action.  Soft hands, good footwork, and quick exchange.  Plays well through the ball and gets substantial carry on his throws.  Topped out at 80 mph.  Covers a lot of ground in the outfield.  At the plate, he starts with an open stance, and uses a leg kick stride.  Shows good extension through contact.  Linedrive type with pull tendencies.  Swing can get long at times.  Reached a top exit velocity of 81 mph off the tee.

Tyler Jester, OF, Dublin Coffman HS, 2014

5-foot-9, 165 pound outfielder with an average athletic frame.  Ran a 4.78 home to first time.  Throws from a high ¾ slot with short arm action.  Lets his athleticism take control when he’s in the outfield.  Accurate with his throws.  Top arm speed of 74 mph.  At the plate, he starts with a straight on stance, and uses a short up and down stride.  Takes a solid approach and hits the ball where it is pitched.  Linedrive type.  Registered a top exit velocity of 72 mph.
