Ohio Spotlight Game: Regional Final - #2 Poland Seminary vs Chagrin Falls

Poland overcame some early pitching struggles and a game Chagrin Falls ball club by pounding out 17 hits in a 13-3 win at the Hudson Regional Title game.

Senior centerfielder Eric White continued his exceptional play by singling to left and scoring on junior first baseman Paul O’Shaughnessy tripled to right center. Junior catcher Nick Petrolla drove in O’Shaughnessy with a sacrifice fly to right, making it 2-0 in the first.

Chagrin Falls came right back with two runs thanks to five walks by Poland pitching. 

Poland took the lead right back as junior Dan Klase singled, was forced at second by senior Jared Burkert, who stole second and came around to score on senior Matt Baker’s RBI line drive single to right center. 

They added two more in the fourth inning as Baker singled, moved to third on junior Dom Drummond’s single to right. Drummond stole second before senior Anthony Calcagni drove a sacrifice fly to score Baker and move Drummond to third, and eventually score on an Eric White single to left.

Chagrin closed the gap to 5-3 in the fifth inning sophomore Adam Bencko scored on sophomore Erik Wilson’s single to right center field. 

Poland then put the game away by scoring two runs in the sixth and six runs in the seventh. 

Everyone in Poland’s lineup contributed by either scoring or driving in a run, highlighted by O’Shaughnessy’s two doubles. 

Final score Poland Seminary 13, Chagrin Falls 3. Poland moves on to play in next week state final four.
