Ohio Spotlight Game: Regional Semifinal - Chagrin Falls vs Akron SVSM

Chagrin Falls scored early and often, en route to an 11-5 defeat of Akron St. Vincent St. Mary.

The sophomore laden line-up was up to the task as they pounded out twelve hits and drew four walks. St. Vincent tried to keep pace as they pounded out eight hits and drew three walks, but fell short of the Chagrin Falls firepower.

Falls built an early 5-0 lead in the top of the third inning, thanks to a combination of hits, walks and defensive errors. Sophomore shortstop Adam Bencko led the early attack with two single, two runs and a stolen base.

Just when it looked like the route was on, SVSM struck for four runs in the bottom of the third on singles by Junior shortstop Brandon Bischoff and senior center fielder Kyle Kelly, and doubles by senior designated hitter Colin McNulty and senior designated hitter Colin Nollte

Chagrin Falls came right back  after a walk, hit batter and a bunt single led to a two-run single by senior Billy Porter.

SVSM cut back into the lead with a single run in the bottom of the inning after McNulty walked a scored on a deep triple to left field by junior left fielder Ross Faetanini, making the score 7-5 after 4 innings.

Junior pitcher Andrew Kwasny was able to hold that lead until two out in the sixth when Pat Mcfarland came in tho get the last four outs.

Chagrin Falls was able to add to the final score with a run in the sixth and three in the seventh inning, highlighted by sophomore second baseman Cole Newbauer’s two RBI single.

Newbauer eventually scored on an RBI single by sophomore centerfielder Colin Kennedy, making the final 11-5.

Bischoff, Nolte, and Faetanini led St. Vincent-St. Mary with two hits apiece, with both of Nolte’s hits being doubles.

Chagrin was led by a group of four sophomores (Bencko, Newbauer, Wilson, Kennedy) who each got two hits apiece. Porter led in RBIs with three.

Chagrin Falls will play Poland at Hudson High School today for a chance to go to the State Final Four.
